"Ice Rod
After Sahasrahla gives Link the Pegasus Shoes, he tells him to get a strange and mystical weapon called the Ice Rod which is located to the east of Lake Hylia. "Once frozen, Link can pick up an enemy and throw it to destroy it."
When Link uses this weapon, it shoots out a blue beam to freeze the enemy, but it consumes some of Link's Magic Power. It is found on Lake Hylia's shore inside a cave to the east. Despite Link being able to acquire the Ice Rod before even entering the Eastern Palace, the item isn't required until near the very end of the game. Link needs the Ice Rod in Turtle Rock when battling against the dungeon boss, Trinexx.
A Link Between Worlds
The Ice Rod can be found in Ravio's Shop to rent for 100 Rupees or purchase for 1,200 Rupees. Unlike before, this weapon floats a block of ice in the air that can be dropped on enemies. Once Link has bought it, he can upgrade it to the Nice Ice Rod after finding ten lost Maiamais and giving them to Mother Maiamai.

"A magical rod crafted from refined ice found in the Hebra Mountains. This rod can cast waves of freezing air. Great for magic-not so great for melee."
Ice Rods are dropped by Ice Wizzrobes and are the less powerful counterpart to the Blizzard Rod. Ice Rods can shoot a projectile of extreme cold, freezing almost anything it hits in a shell of ice for a short period of time. The Unfreezable condition, which is the set bonus for a two-star+ Snowquill Set and also available from the DLC item Zant's Helmet, prevents Link from being paralysed if hit by it.
Although useful to paralyse enemies temporarily, it only has 5 attack damage and so has limited use as a sole weapon. It is recommended that you do not use an Ice Rod for melee combat, as it will break more quickly, and is much more useful when used as a ranged weapon.
