{{Quote|Agitha had a dream last night. Butterflies surrounded Agitha and lifted her up to the sky. =Ancient Sages=

Ancient Sages
The Ancient Sages are a group of mystical characters found in Twilight Princess. There are six of them; each represents a different element, including light, forest, fire, water, shadow, and spirit.
;First Encounter==
They are first encountered immediately after Link has defeated Stallord, in the Mirror Chamber. They talk about how a "dark entity" lurks in the twilight,TP and proceed to explain who they are; ancient sages who have guarded the Mirror of Twilight since ancient times at the command of the goddesses.TP They continue by telling Link the Mirror of Twilight has been fragmented by Ganondorf.TPTPTPTP They reveal a short history of Ganondorf: he was the leader of a band of thieves who attempted to establish dominion over the Sacred Realm,TP but was subdued and brought to justice.TP They then show Link a scene from when they attempted to execute him, but failed, do to the fact he had been blessed with the chosen power of the gods.TP They show a scene of Ganondorf killing one of the Ancient Sages, which, according to the broken symbol, was the Sage of Water. They conclude their speech by telling Link that each fragment lies hidden across Hyrule,TP and then tells Link the locations of each fragment.TPTPTP
;Second Encounter==
The second encounter of the Ancient Sages comes once Link has collected the final Mirror Shard from the City in the Sky. Once Link has warped to the Mirror Chamber, the Sages apologize to Midna for allowing Ganondorf to enter the Twilight Realm,TP and further revealing Midna's status as the Twilight Princess.TP This gets a lengthy explanation from Midna, which starts with her being surprised the Sages knew.TP She continues by saying that because she fled her people she is not qualified to forgive the Sages for their wrong-doing.TP She shows Link a scene of Zant placing a curse on her, changing her from her normal form to her current one. Also in this scene, she shows her placing the first part of the Fused Shadow on her head, along with a foul smile. She continues by explaining her motives in befriending Link: it was because in her world they believed the Hero would appear as a divine beast,TP exactly as Link looked. She only cared about returning her world to normal.TP She continues by telling Link that her motives changed once she saw the sacrifices Link and Zelda made.TP She now understands that both worlds must be saved, not just hers.TP She concludes by motivating Link to continue, not for her, but for Zelda and all of the Realm of Light.TP The cutscene concludes with the Sages vanishing into thin air, which is also the last time they are seen.
* The Ancient Sage that was killed by Ganondorf can be identified using the cracked symbol on its former pedestal. According to it, the Sage was the Sage of Water.

Ashei
Ashei is one of the members of Telma's Resistance group in Twilight Princess. She grew up in the mountains with her knight father, and is a skilled swordswoman from what he taught her. She doesn't seem to like the current Hyrule Soldiers very much, calling them "sorry excuses for Hyrule Soldiers". She knows much about mountains, being raised there, but is especially interested in why Snowpeak is controlled by evil.
;=Helping Link===
When there have been beast sightings in Zora's Domain, that gives her an excuse to go and investigate Snowpeak Mountain. She wears a Yeti mask and sketches the Yeti (later being discovered as Yeto) as he comes down the mountain and takes a red fish, then gives the sketch to Link. The sketch eventually helps Link get an addition to his fishing rod and enter the next dungeon, Snowpeak Ruins.
Later in the game, Ashei, along with the other resistance members, saves Link inside Hyrule Castle from an ambush of numerous enemies.

Auru is another member of Telma's Resistance, and is probaby the oldest among them. He is interested and wise about the desert and the evils within it. He also possibly could have known the Ancient Sages that guard the Mirror of Twilight, and also knew that they had tutored Princess Zelda. Link first meets him in Lake Hylia atop a lookout tower. He claims that the evil destroying Hyrule is coming from the desert, more specifically, Arbiter's Grounds, an old prison for the worst of the worst. He helped get Link to the desert through Fyer, forcing Fyer to repay an old debt. After meeting Auru there, Link can find him later at Telma's Bar.

Barnes is a character who makes an appearance in Twilight Princess. He lives in Kakariko Village, and is the owner of the Bomb Shop there. When Link first sees him, the Eldin Province is covered Twilight, so Barnes is a spirit. He is found with Renado, Luda, and the Ordon children in the Sanctuary. He is constantly looking out the window for the "monsters". Barnes is a timid character, and is scared easily. When he gets scared, he usually puts his faceguard down over his face.
After the Twilight is diminished, Barnes goes back to his bomb shop, but he doesn't have any bombs right away because his Storage House was destroyed. Soon, however, he completes a batch of Bombs, and later creates some Water Bombs. He also buys bombs from Link, in case Link doesn't have room for a certain kind of bomb (a bomb bag can only carry one type of bomb).

She is the daughter of Hanch and Sera. Early on in the game, Beth admires Link for all the things he does but still has time to relax. She mostly plays with Talo and Malo, but calls them "idiots" and "brats" and thinks of them as immature.TPTP She has a somewhat snotty attitude, not wanting to help her mom out with her store because it doesn't sell "girly stuff",TP and wanting to go to Castle Town because there aren't any "good" clothes in Ordon Village.TPTP
Beth has little to do with the storyline, but she is captured with the other children when King Bulblin attacks the village. Later on in his quest, Wolf Link learns the Youths' Scent which leads him to Kakariko Village. Beth and the rest of the kids take shelter here with Renado in the Sanctuary, to escape the frightening monsters that dwell within the Twilight. Once the young hero has restored the light to Eldin Province, he encounters a cut scene. During this scene, King Bulblin raids through the village as Beth stands helplessly in the way. Colin bravely pushes her aside and gets kidnapped at the consequence of his heroic actions. Despite her attitude, Beth seems to become close friends with Renado's daughter, Luda.

Colin is one of the children of Ordon Village and the son of Rusl and Uli. Colin is a timid child that is somewhere between 7 and 10 years of age. Colin is much more laid back than the rest of the children of the village and is very reluctant to take part in any of their more dangerous adventures. He is often teased by the other kids in the village because of his timid nature. He views Link and Ilia as great role models and even says that he would like to be like Link when he grows up.
Early in the game, Colin makes the Fishing Rod, which his mother ends up giving to Link. Soon after, Colin and Ilia are both kidnapped by King Bulblin and taken away. Link later finds Colin in Kakariko Village where he is being taken care of by Renado. Colin lives up to his heroic role model when he saves Beth from the path of King Bulblin. In this scene, Colin tells Link that he now knows what his father Rusl meant by true strength, in this case courage. Colin is captured by King Bulblin but is later saved by Link after an epic battle in Hyrule Field and on the Bridge of Eldin. Coro is a character that appears exclusively in Twilight Princess. He has a large afro, which he lets birds nest in. He is one of many Humans that Link encounters in the game. However, it is unknown if Coro is a part of any particular village. His house is located just outside of the Ordona Province in Faron Woods, where he runs his Lantern Shop.
Coro is the first member of the family of three that Link encounters in Twilight Princess. Coro's sisters are named Iza and Hena. They both run attractions in the Lanayru Province; Iza runs the Rapid Ride and Hena operates the Fishing Hole. During a specific part of the prologue, when Link is pursuing Talo who has run off, he encounters Coro sitting just outside of his house. Coro offers Link a free Lantern, saying it's a business tactic as now Link has to buy Lantern Oil to operate the lantern.Unsourced The Lantern allows Link to easily navigate through the dark caves and ultimately save Talo. Additionally, the Lantern continues to be an important item throughout the game. To refill the Lantern, Link can return to Coro to do so, however there are alternative sources of oil in other parts of Hyrule.
Coro also has a pet bird, Trill, who watches another shop farther into Faron Woods. This shop is called Trill's Shop, and sells Lantern Oil and Red Potion. It is located in the northern part of Faron Woods, near the entrance to the Forest Temple. If Link steals from Trill's Shop, which is exceptionally easy, Coro gets mad at Trill for allowing it.Unsourced Coro is considered the "lazy", "worthless", and lousy fisher in his family by his sisters, and doesn't have that much respect. However, his sisters might be joking around just because he's family. Nonetheless, he is still considerably nice to Link. Dangoro is the Mini-Boss of the Goron Mines in Twilight Princess. He is a Goron, and is the guardian of the Hero's Bow.
He looks similar to an average Goron, but larger and more muscular, and with a much rounder face. He also wears armor on his arms, back, and head. When Link first encounters him, he assumes that Link is an intruder and prepares to fight him. After being defeated, he realized that Link was sent to the mines and grants him access to the chamber in which the Hero's Bow is held.
;Battle==
During the initial stages of the battle, Link must proceed to attack Dangoro. Stand near the center of the magnetic platform at the start of the dual. Dangoro's belly is the weak spot. The giant Goron's main form of attack, is to use his charged punch. However, since Dangoro takes a brief period of time to wind up his punch, this leaves him vulnerable for attack. Link must strategically wait for Dangoro to charge his attack and then quickly strike his abdominal region. The jump attack works most effectively, rather than using just the sword attacks. The sword attacks won't be enough to ground him, so just move away after two or three hits to avoid his attack.
right
After dealing a sufficient amount of damage, Dangoro opts for a different offensive strategy. This time he uses a roll attack, a common form of movement among the race. Link must equip his Iron Boots and grab Dangoro to withstand the goron's brute force. Link can then hurl him off the edge of the platform and into the lava below. After being exposed to a large amount of boiling lava, the armored Goron accepts defeat and lets Link proceed through the dungeon.
;Reward==
Once Link has defeated Dangoro, he emerges from the lava and realizes that Link is destined to wield the legendary weapon of the Gorons in the far room. After Link enters the room, he proceeds to open the chest, and obtains the Hero's Bow, which proves pivotal in advancing through the remainder of the dungeon.

The Female Monkey is a character found in Twilight Princess.
;Overview==
She first appears in Ordon Village where she has stolen the Baby Cradle from Uli. She can be seen on a pillar in the distance above the water, holding the cradle. Link can climb up to a nearby pillar and summon a Hawk with some Hawk Grass. Link can then send the Hawk towards the monkey, and it will grab the Cradle, bringing it back to Link. He can then take it back to Uli to get the Fishing Rod.
After Link purchases the Slingshot from Sera's Sundries, he meets with the children of Ordon, just outside his house to train. Shortly after doing us, the Female Monkey makes an appearance, causing Beth, Malo, and Talo to run after her. Link gives chase and finds that Talo has traveled deep into the Faron Woods chasing after the Female Monkey. Link will catch up with Talo and the Monkey in North Faron, where they have been captured by enemy Bokoblin. Link will defeat the Bokoblin and save the Monkey and Talon.
When Wolf Link is collecting Tears of Light in North Faron, he will see the Female Monkey just outside of the Forest Temple. She is standing on top of a smaller pillar, scared of the two Shadow Insects that are nearby. After Link clears the area of insects, the Monkey will talk about how his boss, Ook, has gone funny in the head, and there are now scary monsters everywhere.TPTPTPTP
After Link has cleared the Faron Woods of Twilight he will travel back to North Faron and will need to make his way through the purple fog. Once he tries to pull the Lantern out, the female monkey will come and steal his lantern away. She will then guide Link through the fog, swinging the lantern around, creating a path through the fog. Once Link makes it through the fog, she will drop the lantern and run off ahead, towards the Forest Temple.
In the first room of the Forest Temple, the Female Monkey has once again been captured by some Bokoblins. After defeating the enemies and freeing the monkey, she will now follow behind Link has he progresses through the early portion of the dungeon. She serves as Link's guide, regularly running up to doorways, encouraging Link to follow behind. She tries to take Link to her boss, but Ook uses the Gale Boomerang to destroy the bridge. Link will then need to use the help of the Female Monkey to navigate the forest Temple, and find her fellow monkey friends.
After saving three other Monkeys, Link can return to the broken bridge and can use all four monkeys to swing across the gap. Later in the dungeon, after Link has rescued all eight monkeys, they create a giant swing, which carries Link across the gap where he can then take on the dungeon boss, Diababa.
After Link has completed the Lakebed Temple, he will return to North Faron Woods as Wolf Link and will run into the Female Monkey once again, where she will be ambushed by several enemy Puppets. Bo isn't an important character until Link needs to ascend Death Mountain, because Bo is the only one who has defeated the gorons. Bo teaches Link how to Sumo wrestle, for that is how the gorons determine how strong someone is. It is later revealed that Bo could only beat the gorons at wrestling with the help of the Iron Boots, and after realizing that he needed to do something to help, he gave them to Link. He made Link promise not to tell anybody about the boots, "especially Renado", who is a close friend of his.

;Appearances==
;=Majora's Mask===
Majora's Mask is the inaugural appearance of the Postman. He resides within the Post Office of Clock Town, the main Hylian populated area in the game. The Postman operates on a very tight schedule, and thus any small delay could disrupt his entire day.MM He operates under this condition. He shares the same model as the Running Man from Ocarina of Time.
;==First Day====

The Postman has a very common schedule for the three days in which Majora's Mask takes place. The Postman follows a strict schedule on each Day, which includes Letter Collection in the morning, Letter Delivery in the afternoon, and Practice in the evening.MM On the First Day, letter collection begins at 9 AM, at which he checks every postbox in Clock Town in half-hour increments, returning to the Post Office at 12 PM. For the next hour, the Postman can be found inside the Post Office taking a nap, as according to him, the schedule says it is his nap time.MM At 1 PM, the next part of the Postman's day begins: Letter Delivery. There was only one letter for the Postman to deliver, which was Kafei's letter to Anju. The Postman arrives at the Stock Pot Inn at 2 PM, when he delivers the letter to Anju, who is found at the front desk. If Link talks to the Postman while he is delivering the letter to Anju, he can hear an odd conversation between the two, in which Anju asks the Postman numerous questions about where the Postman got the letter from,MMMMMM which all result in very ambiguous answers from the Postman.MMMMMM This is in fact the beginning of the lengthy Anju and Kafei quest, which the Postman plays a vital role in. After successfully delivering the letter, the Postman heads back to the Post Office, arriving there at 3 PM. From that time until midnight, the Postman can be found inside the Post Office, where he is training. He is running for exactly ten seconds in his mind, without looking at a clock.MM He asks if Link wants to try, and explains how to do it to Link.MM If Link successfully stops at exactly ten seconds, the Postman is amazed, saying Link has reflexes fitting for a postman.MM The Postman rewards Link for his successful display with a Piece of Heart.MM If Link wears the Bunny Hood during this mini-game, he can see the clock on the screen, making it much easier to get that Piece of Heart. At midnight, Link is kicked out of the Post Office, and is locked out for the rest of the First Day.
;==Second Day====
On the Second Day, the Postman's schedule has two different varieties, depending on whether or not Link is attempting to complete the Anju and Kafei quest. If he is not, the Postman schedule is fairly similar to his schedule the previous Day; he first exits the Post Office at 9 AM for Letter Collection, again travelling to each postbox in half-hour increments, returning to the Post Office at 12 PM. This is when the Postman's schedule varies. If Link is not participating in the Anju and Kafei quest, the Postman has his nap time from 12 to 1 PM. If Link talks to the Postman during this time, he learns that not one letter was mailed, which to the Postman is a big problem. Since there is no mail to deliver, the Postman cannot perform his afternoon task of Letter Delivering, leaving him confused as to what he should do in the afternoon, longing for someone to tell him.MM At 1 PM, Link is kicked out of the Post Office. If he tries to re-enter, he finds it to be locked. It stays locked for 11 hours, until finally the Postman re-emerges at 12 AM. If Link talks to him while he is out, he is told to be disrupting the Postman, in a fairly rude manner.MM The Postman starts wandering around Clock Town, finally stopping at the postbox in South Clock Town at 1 AM. He deposits a letter, and then heads back to the Post Office, returning at 2 AM. For the rest of the Second Day, Link is locked out of the Post Office.

;==Final Day====
On the Final Day, the Postman's schedule has even more variables, all focusing on whether or not Link is doing the aforementioned side quest. If he is not, the Postman starts his day the same way he does any other; he first leaves the Post Office at 9 AM, and travels to each postbox in Clock Town at half-hour increments. There is only one letter to collect on this day, which the Postman can be seen collecting from the South Clock Town postbox. At 12 PM, the Postman returns to the Post Office, and uses the next hour as his nap time. If Link enters the Post Office and speaks to him, the Postman reveals to Link that last night he wrote a letter to himself and deposited it into a post box.MM He had just retrieved it during the morning's Letter Collection, and plans to deliver it in the afternoon.MM At 1 PM, the Postman exits the Post Office, and begins the Letter Delivery part of his day. However, since they are no letters to deliver, the Postman does something very odd: he travels to each postbox found across Clock Town, and appears to just touch them, instead of fully checking for a letter. He does this in approximately 25 minute intervals, taking him only two hours to complete. He returns to the Post Office at 3 PM, and locks himself inside. The door remains locked until 6 PM, at which point Link can enter to find the Postman kneeling on the floor. He tells Link that he wants to flee, but it is not written on the schedule.MM The delivery schedule is the Postman's highest priority.MM On the bed, Link can find the letter that the Postman delivered to himself. It reads:

At this point, there is nothing Link can do for the Postman, who remains kneeling down inside the Post Office until the Moon crushes Termina.
;==Schedule Alterations====
The Postman plays a vital role in the Anju and Kafei quest, and as such, has plenty of schedule changes due to his participation. His First Day schedule remains the same, but things change on the Second Day. It is the same until 12 PM, but after that, it is completely different. At 12, the Postman can be found inside the Post Office, where he is taking a nap. If Link talks to him, he learns that only one letter was sent todayMM (which was the Letter to Kafei Link delivered for Anju). At 1 PM, the Postman begins the Letter Delivery part of his day, and exits the Post Office. Since the letter is addressed to Kafei, the Postman heads to the Laundry Pool, and arrives there at 2:45 PM. He rings the bell, which calls Kafei out of the Back Room. They meet on the bridge connecting the two sides of the area, where the Postman informs Kafei that he has a letter for him.MM After the letter has been successfully delivered, the Postman heads back to the Post Office, arriving there at 5 PM. From 5 to midnight, the Postman is again training, and Link can also participate and attempt to acquire the Piece of Heart, if he hasn't already done so. At midnight, Link is kicked out of the Post Office, and cannot re-enter as it is locked. It remains locked for the rest of the Second Day.
;===Final Day=====

On the Final Day during the Anju and Kafei quest, the Postman's schedule is fairly similar to his normal schedule. He follows the same schedule during the day, and says mostly the same things. However, during his nap time between noon and 1 PM, he tells Link that not a single letter was mailed, instead of telling Link about the letter he sent to himself. The rest of the day goes the exact same, up to 6 PM, in which the Postman is again kneeling down beside his bed, wanting to flee. However, if Link has been following the Anju and Kafei quest, he would have received the Letter to Mama from the Man from Curiosity Shop. He can give this to the Postman, who immediately notices the priority mail seal, and decides to deliver it.MM This mail is a letter from Kafei to his mother, Madame Aroma, who is coincidently the Postmaster. ;=The Minish Cap===

In The Minish Cap, the Postman runs around Hyrule Town delivering letters. If Link gets in his way, the Postman pauses for a moment before jumping over Link. Throughout the game, the Postman has various sayings that he says to Link if Link talks to him.
After Link has completed the Cave of Flames and entered Castor Wilds for the first time, Link is able to fuse a Blue Kinstone with the Postman. This triggers Marcy to contact Swiftblade to write a newsletter. Marcy can then be seen throughout the game within the Post Office.
;=Twilight Princess===
The Postman seen in Twilight Princess has a very similar look to the Postman seen in Majora's Mask. Similarly to Majora's Mask's Postman, he runs around delivering mail. There are certain locations in Hyrule that when Link passes through them, the Postman will stop him if he has a letter to deliver. There are multiple different locations, including the gate that leads to Castle Town, on the Bridge of Eldin, on the Great Bridge of Hylia, in the Hyrule Field north of Castle Town, and in the Hyrule Field in the Faron Province. Interestingly, the Postman stops Link as he passes by these spots no matter what, even if Link is in wolf form, the Postman is somehow able to recognize it as Link, and stop him so he can deliver the mail. This ability is never explained in-game.
The Postman is first seen while Link is on his way to the Eldin Province. However, the Eldin Province is covered in Twilight, so the Postman stops Link in Hyrule Field. He tells Link to go no further, as he says a "black wall" blocks the way ahead.TP He remarks that he had planned to deliver a few letters, but that it now seems impossible.TP Before heading off in the opposite direction, he hands Link his first letter,TP which is a letter from the Postman.
The Postman also has six secret locations where he is not delivering mail to Link. The first is in Telma's Bar, in the small section to the right (Wii) of the entrance. Here, he can be heard trying to decide what to order.TP The second location is in Zora's Domain, where he can be heard trying to determine to whom he should deliver a letter addressed to a Mr. Zora.TP The third locale is in the barn at the Ordon Ranch, where he is feeding a messy letter to an Ordon Goat.TP The Postman is seen again in the kitchen area of the Elde Inn, where he is attempting to dry a letter he dropped into the hot spring.TP The fifth location is in Zora's River, where he can be seen on one of the ledges during Plumm's mini-game. The sixth and final location is also the most bizarre. He can be found on the upper ledge of the 50th floor of the Cave of Ordeals. However, the Postman only appears on the ledge on Link's second time through the Cave of Ordeals, not the first. He says to Link that he thinks Link is lost, and then mumbles that, "It's got to be around here somewhere..."TP It is unknown what he is referring to.
;=Phantom Hourglass===
The Postman in Phantom Hourglass, unlike his previous appearances, bears a similar resemblance to those of the Rito race. Although appearing mostly human, he has wings and is able to fly like any other Rito. If at any time a Postbox shows a sign of having a letter addressed to Link, the Postman shows up and reads the letter to Link himself. Because of this new postal service, there is no Letter Collection Screen.
The Postman is first seen on Cannon Island, where he can be found sitting on the Postbox waiting for Link. Once Link approaches, he introduces himself as the Postman, telling Link he is likely going to see Link around throughout the game.PH From then on, all interactions with the Postman are for delivering letters only. The Postman is not involved in any side quests at all.
The Postman also rewards Link if Link completes a certain number of Big Plays in multiplayer mode, usually by giving Link some Treasure.
;=Spirit Tracks===
In Spirit Tracks, the Postman has a very similar appearance and role as he does in Phantom Hourglass. Although, unlike his Phantom Hourglass counterpart, the Postman in Spirit Tracks does not have wings, and thus cannot fly. He instead runs to deliver letters and other various parcels, like his previous incarnations.
The Postman is first seen in Castle Town while Link is on his way to his engineer graduation ceremony. He delivers Link's first letter; a letter from the Postmaster. The Postman is seen again on numerous occasions throughout the game, everytime delivering Link a letter. Unlike in Phantom Hourglass, the Postman does not actually read the letters out loud, as folks thought that was rude. Instead, the Postman will simply hand the letter to Link and allow him to read it himself.ST

When Zora's Domain was frozen over by the forces of Zant, Prince Ralis attempted to contact Princess Zelda at Hyrule Castle, however he was attacked but fortunately rescued by Ilia. Ralis fell ill and brought to Telma's Bar in Hyrule Castle Town. Despite requiring emergency medical care, the town physician Dr. Borville, refuses to give him treatment under the excuse that he has no expertise in treating Zoras.
Eventually Link tracks down Ilia and discovers the condition of Prince Ralis. Telma requests the assistance of Link to help escort Prince Ralis to Kakariko Village where the town shamen Renado can treat him.
In time, the Prince fully recovers, however upon hearing the news of his mother's passing, Ralis loses self-confidence and does not consider himself fit for ruling the Zoras. Ralis spends his time outside the grave of his father through the secret alcove at the back of the Graveyard.
Later, Ralis presents Link with the Coral Earring, a hook which will allow Link to catch a Reekfish in Zora's Domain. Ralis eventually returns to Zora's Domain and is watched over by the spirit of his mother.

Their primary purpose is to guard the entrance to the ruins to the Temple of Time, where the Master Sword resides. The Guardians themselves seem to made out of a tough metallic material and they are capable of both speech and movement.
Within the events of Twilight Princess, Link has to gain access to the Master Sword to break the curse of his current Wolf form, which the Master Sword can unlock according to Princess Zelda. After navigating the Sacred Grove itself, Wolf Link comes across a puzzling structure. After howling Zelda's Lullaby, the Guardians awaken.
Link then has to solve the puzzle. In this puzzle, Wolf Link must move strategically around the many platforms. When Link makes a movement, one Guardian moves in the same direction and the other moves in the opposite direction. If they are facing the edge, the Guardians will be unable to move; if they jump towards one another, the Guardians clash and return to their original position. His horn, which resembles Deku Link's pipes in Majora's Mask, also guides Link to him. When Link gets near him, he hears him playing the familiar Saria's Song, which sets the mood perfectly. During the game of hide and seek, Skull Kid repeatedly summons Puppets to attack Link as he chases him, while Skull Kid never attacks Link directly.
When Link returns later in the game, Skull Kid once again helps Link navigate the Sacred Grove, although this time, he leads Link to the entrance of the Temple of Time. This time around, his hiding place is harder to find. Two things give away his location: the light of his lantern and the sound of his instrument playing Saria's Song. Link

Main article: Link

Link is the hero and primary protagonist of Twilight Princess, where he is a ripe seventeen-year-old boy.[1] He works as a rancher, and lives in Ordon Woods.[1] He is dressed in a multi-colored shirt and pants, and sandals. He buys a slingshot and shows it off to the kids when a Monkey comes and Malo, Talo, and Beth run after the monkey. Talo keeps running after the monkey, while Malo and Beth get left behind. Link has to find Talo and the monkey. After he saves Talo and the monkey he returns to Ordon Village. The next day he prepares to go off for Hyrule Castle to deliver a gift, but Ilia notices a cut on his horse, Epona, and yells at him. Link must then go to Ordon Spring in order to retrieve his horse. After taking a secret passageway to get past the locked gate, Link reunites with Epona. But then the gate bursts open and a Bulblin knocks Link unconscious. Their leader then kidnaps Ilia and Colin and blows his horn, causing a portal to open. Link then wakes up and notices the children gone. Frantically, he runs after them, only to run into a huge black wall preventing him from proceeding. A monster pulls him through the wall into Faron Province, which is now covered in Twilight. This causes him to transform into a sacred wolf. He meets up with Midna in the Twilight Realm who becomes his partner for this game. Link meets Zelda and eventually returns to the light. Throughout the game, Link has to return the Tears of Light to the Light Spirits, and go through three dungeons to get three Fused Shadows. As Link progresses through Hyrule, he learns more about Midna, the Twili, and Zant and how all of the three are associated with one another. After collecting the Fused Shadows, Midna meets a terrible fate and Link becomes cursed to permanently roam as a wolf. He helps Midna visit Princess Zelda, who entrusts him to save the Kingdom of Hyrule from the tyranny of Zant, and tells Link a way to transform back into a human. He acquires the Master Sword, removing his curse, and travels to the Gerudo Desert to seek the Mirror of Twilight, which he finds has been broken by Zant. He then has to repair the Mirror of Twilight that was broken into four pieces. Once he does so, he has access to the Palace of Twilight. He goes there to defeat Zant and save Hyrule Castle from the Twilight. He eventually goes on to confront his old nemesis, Ganondorf and defeats him, bringing peace to Hyrule. In the end credits, he is seen riding away on his horse, leaving the Faron Woods to an unknown location, also leaving the Master Sword back in its pedestal. His role in Twilight Princess ranges from many things, but he ultimately strives to help Midna in reclaiming her power and helping her people.

Wolf Link

Wolf-Link-Midna-Art.png
Main article: Wolf Link‎

Wolf Link can use his senses to see these spirits, or areas where he can dig. He is also faster than Link's Hylian form. Midna often rides on his back in this form, unless he is in sunlight. Eventually, Link gains the Shadow Crystal and, between this and the Master Sword, is able to turn into a wolf at any time. This becomes extremely useful, as this is the only way Link is able to freely warp, unless there are other people nearby, in which case Midna will not allow Link to transform or warp, Link attacks by jumping and biting. Link can also lunge at enemies and latch onto some. Once latched on, Link can proceed to bite viciously until the enemy knocks him off.

Wolf Link is unable to use any items; however, he is able to use his senses. He uses this ability to track down smells, including Ilia's Scent, and the scent of the Ordonian children. Additionally, many NPC's are afraid of Wolf Link, and will scream and run or cower in fear if he appears in the Light World. If Link scares the guards in Castle Town, they'll drop their weapons. The best place to do this is around the fountain.

Wolf Link also features the unique ability to charge an attack and release it to instantly kill nearly any enemy caught in the area of effect. This is done by releasing the power of Midna's Fused Shadow.

 • Wolf Link is replaced in Hyrule Warriors by a Twilight Wolf created by Midna. The Twilight Wolf attacks similarly to Wolf Link.

Midna

Midna2.png
Main article: Midna

Midna is the secondary protagonist and the guide character in Twilight Princess. For much of the game, Midna takes the form of an imp-like creature. It is later revealed that this is not her true form and is part of curse placed on her by Zant. [2][3]

Midna is the only character in Twilight Princess to have voice acting. However, she does not speak in any particular language, just incomprehensible sounds for effect. Throughout the game, Midna's character changes dramatically. She begins as callous, uncaring and patronising, and tries to use Link for her own good, but she soon realizes that Link is more than just a tool; she values him and Princess Zelda as friends and her character becomes warmer. Midna possesses one piece of the Fused Shadow before she meets Link.

Role in Story==

Midna is first seen spying on Link from behind a tree in the Twilight-engulfed Faron Woods when Link first transforms into his Wolf form. By the end of the game, it is revealed that Midna is in fact the Twilight Princess. She is from the Twilight Realm and is the ruler of it and the Twili race that dwell there. She originally joins Link on his quest so that she can acquire the three fragments of the Fused Shadow, defeat Zant, and reclaim her throne. When these are taken away from her by Zant, she tries to take Link to the Twilight Realm to avenge him, only to find the Mirror of Twilight broken into shards. The Ancient Sages inform Midna and Link that only the true leader of the Twilight Realm could shatter the Mirror of Twilight, Zant could merely break it into pieces.So Midna and Link go in search of the other three pieces of the Mirror of Twilight.

As the story progresses, she later ends up developing feelings for Link and the Light World, and helps him defeat Ganondorf. After doing so, she transforms back into her true form. After saying goodbye to Link, she re-enters the Twilight Realm to once again lead her people. However, in the process of her departure, she shatters the Mirror of Twilight, proving herself the true leader of the Twilight Realm, yet breaking the only known connection between the two worlds in the process.

Zant

Zant is the secondary antagonist of Twilight Princess, although for most of the game, he appears to be the main villain. Zant is a part of the Twili race, a race that was banished to the Twilight Realm as a result of their ancestors attempting to seek domain over the Sacred Realm. Zant claims himself to be the King of Twilight, but his power is a false one, as Midna is the rightful leader. During the beginning of the game, Zant seems to be a steady figure, barely showing any emotion or weakness. However, during the boss fight he unravels, showing his true personality.

Origins==
Dark Interlopers

Zant is a descendant of a group of sorcerers named the Interlopers. This tribe excelled in shadow magic and intended to use the power of the Fused Shadow to seek domain over the Sacred Realm.[4] However, the three Light Spirits of Hyrule intervened, taking the Fused Shadows and breaking them into four separate fragments.[5] With the power of the Fused Shadows gone from their grasp, the tribe was left powerless. They were chased across the lands of Hyrule and were driven into another Realm by the Light Spirits. Over time the Interlopers eventually evolved into a peaceful tribe known as the Twili.

The Twili race became gentle creatures and over time a monarchy was established in order to lead the tribe. Zant had been a loyal servant to the monarchy of the Palace for many years.[6] He was meant to be next in line to ascend the throne, but it was Midna, chosen by her father, the former king of the Twilit Kingdom, as the true leader, now to be known as the Twilight Princess.[7][8] As his indignation of the royal clan of the kingdom grew,[9] Zant, distraught by this news, looked to the heavens for an answer.[10] It was at this moment that he was gifted a mysterious foreign power by his supposed god.

This power was gifted to Zant by Ganondorf, who had previously escaped his imprisonment in Arbiter's Grounds. Due to his failed execution, the remaining Sages decided the only option now was to seal Ganondorf into the Twilight Realm. Ganondorf housed his power into Zant at one request, that he merge light with shadow, therefore creating complete darkness.[11] Zant took this power and usurped the throne of the Twilight Realm. With this false power, Zant turned the realm's inhabitants into mindless Shadow Beasts and Midna into an imp.[12] Zant then proceeded to invade Hyrule Castle and force Princess Zelda to give up the throne. In a plan to shroud the Kingdom in Twilight, the King of Shadows sent out the devilish Shadow Beasts and ordered them to steal the light from the provinces across Hyrule. The Kingdom now became a world suspended in perpetual Twilight.[13]

Spoiler Alert! This section describes a subject that is sensitive to plot development.

Link gets caught up in Zant's evil plot during the end of the prologue. King Bulblin and his army of Bulblins invade the safety of the Ordona Province, attacking Link and its inhabitants. Link later on wakes up after being left unconscious, realizing that both Colin and Ilia have been taken. Link proceeds to head over the bridge and onto Faron Province, but instead he is faced with a curtain of Twilight. A Shadow Beast then drags the young hero into the Twilight-filled province of Faron, thus starting the events of the main plot.

Zant invading Hyrule Castle

Link first hears about the whereabouts of Zant when escaping his imprisonment in Hyrule Castle. Midna assists the young hero in reaching the tower where Princess Zelda resides. She tells Link about how Zant invaded the safe confines of the castle where she was forced to give up the throne.[14] Zelda also explains to Link how Hyrule is covered in perpetual Twilight, and all of its inhabitants have turned into helpless spirits, who know only fear.[15] Later on in the game, after restoring the light to Faron Province, the Light Spirit, Faron, tells Link about a dark power that lies in the Forest Temple.[16] This is a fragment of the Fused Shadows, and Faron tells Link that he must use this dark withered power to defeat the King of the Shadows, Zant.[17]

Link first encounters Zant after collecting the third and final piece of the Fused Shadow from the Lakebed Temple.[18] Zant halts Link and Midna as they exit. The Light Spirit, Lanayru, tries to intervene, but Zant once again steals the light, thus restoring Twilight to the province. Zant also takes the Fused Shadows from Midna, calling them an old and withered power, proclaiming that his power is new and was granted to him by his god.[19] Wolf Link tries to attack Zant, but, in the process, Zant uses his dark powers to curse Link, meaning he is now suspended in beast form. The Usurper King then goes on to tell Midna of his desires, and that darkness and light will meet at last while asking the cursed imp to join him on his quest.[20] After Midna refuses to aid Zant, he manipulates the Light Spirit Lanayru to return Midna to the Light World, leaving Midna an inch away from death.[21]

Later on in the plot, Link and Midna find the whereabouts of the Mirror of Twilight, hidden within Arbiter's Grounds. This is the only connection to the Twilight Realm, so Link has to pass through the grounds to reach the Mirror Chamber. Upon navigating through the dungeon, Link finds the remains of a skeletal being covered in sand. Zant appears and is surprised that the young hero has made this far, he then explains to Link that this is the last time they shall meet alive.[22] The King of Shadows then pulls out the Twilight Sword and thrusts it into the skull of the remains. This brings the seemingly dead being to life and this is the fourth boss of the game, Stallord. Upon defeating Stallord, Link makes his way up to the Mirror Chamber where he finds the mirror broken. The Ancient Sages tell the young hero that this was the work of a dark power that once resided within the demon thief Ganondorf.[23] The Sages also tell Link that they previously sealed Ganondorf within the Twilight Realm and that this could be the source of Zant's power.[24]

Palace of Twilight

After collecting the three Mirror Shards, Link and Midna are now able to access the Twilight Realm and confront Zant. Upon entering the realm, Link has to restore the two Sols to the plaza. Each Sol is found on the opposing ends of the Palace. Once the Sols have been returned to their original position it powers up Link's Master Sword. The Master Sword now becomes the Light Sword and it allows Link to clear up the shadows that block the entrance to Zant's Palace.[25] Link advances to the northern palace where he confronts Zant. Upon entering the throne room, Zant explains his hatred for the Light World, saying they trapped his people like insects in a cage.[26] He also explain his frustrations with not becoming king and how he was gifted power by his god, Ganondorf, who was ultimately using Zant.

After Link defeats Zant, he explains that the curse set up on Midna cannot be broken. This curse was put on her by his god, Ganondorf, who is now reborn in the Light World. Zant proclaims that as long as he lives, Ganondorf shall resurrect him.[27] It is at this moment that Midna wields the complete power of the Fused Shadow to ultimately kill Zant. However, after the defeat of Ganondorf, Zant can be seen snapping his neck upon Ganondorf's death. This could be seen as symbolism of the betrayal.

Boss==
Main article: Zant (Boss)
Zant boss fight

Zant is one of the longer boss fights in Twilight Princess and the battle itself is composed of six stages. Each stage of the fight takes place at a different boss battle location, including the Forest Temple, Goron Mines, Lakebed Temple, and more.[28]

 • Zant plays a similar role to Agahnim from A Link to the Past and Ghirahim from Skyward Sword, as he plays the role of a puppet to the main antagonist.
 • Within the boss battle against Zant, each stage replicates a previous boss, using similar items and strategies.
 • During the death of Ganondorf, Zant appears before Ganon and snaps his neck. This could be interpreted as a break in the bond of power that the two shared or a symbol of revenge.
 • Zant is the first notable villain to actually give Link a Heart Container after his defeat.

Princess Zelda

Zelda-Twilight-Princess.png
Main article: Zelda

Zelda returns in Twilight Princess as the princess of Hyrule and one of the game's protagonists. Like other titles in the series, Zelda is kidnapped by Ganondorf during the course of the game.

Hyrule plunged into Twilight==
During Twilight Princess's prologue events, Link, in Ordon Village, prepares to transport the Ordon Sword to Hyrule Castle. On the day of Link's planned departure, numerous shadow beasts appeared throughout Hyrule and stole the light of the light spirits in Hyrule, which allowed the land to succumb to twilight. All creatures of the light world are transformed into spirits in the twilight, and they are unaware of the reality of their surroundings. Link, however, is transformed into a sacred wolf - a sign to Midna that he is the chosen hero she seeks to aid her in her own quest for vengeance against Zant. She assists Link in reaching the tower of Hyrule Castle where Zelda resides so that Link can learn the reality of the darkness over Hyrule.

Like Link, Zelda is not transformed into a spirit in the twilight but remains a Hylian as the Princess of Hyrule Castle. Upon meeting Link, she tells Link the tale of how Zant launched a raid on Hyrule Castle with the assistance of several shadow beasts. Zant quickly defeated the throne room's garrison and gave Zelda an ultimatum to surrender or die. Zelda, fearful for the welfare of the people of her kingdom, surrendered to Zant who then plunged the land of Hyrule into twilight.

Zelda's Sacrifice==
After Link retrieves the three Fused Shadows for Midna, Zant appears and casts a curse on Link which prevents him from returning to Hylian form when not in Twilight. After Midna refuses to assist Zant in conquering the world of light, he mortally wounds her by exposing her to light. Immediately after this, the Light Spirit Lanayru transports Link and Midna from Zant's presence, and the injured Minda tells Link to hurry to Princess Zelda.

After reaching Zelda, Midna pleads with Zelda to help break the new curse on Link and tells her that he is needed to save the world of light. Zelda informs Link and Midna that the curse on Link was caused by an evil power which can only be cleaved by the sacred blade of evil's bane, the Master Sword. She goes on to tell them to search for the Master Sword in the Sacred Grove behind Faron Woods.

Midna asks Link if he can reach the sacred grove alone then asks Zelda to tell him where the Mirror of Twilight is. Zelda suddenly realizes Midna's importance and desire to help them protect the world of light. Zelda then passes her life energy into Midna to heal her and subsequently disappears.

Battle with Ganondorf==
After acquiring the four shards of the Mirror of Twilight and defeating Zant, Link and Midna return to Hyrule Castle for the third time to confront Ganondorf. Upon reaching the castle tower, Zelda's body is locked motionless above Ganondorf on the throne of Hyrule Castle. Ganondorf reveals to Link that after he was banished to the void, he used the hatred of the people of the Twilight Realm as nourishment to grow strong again. He then manipulated Zant to open the path to return to the world of light and usurp control over Hyrule.

Zelda's body is then used by Ganondorf as a puppet in battle against Link. After Link defeats the puppet Zelda and the beast Ganon, Zelda reawakens as herself; she had been using Midna to harbor her soul. Zelda and Link finally team up against Ganondorf in battle throughout Hyrule field. Zelda uses light arrows to stun Ganondorf so that Link can reach him on horseback to attack with the Master Sword. After knocking Ganondorf from his horse with Zelda's assistance, Link defeats Ganondorf with the Master Sword on foot.

Ganondorf

Ganondorf being banished to the Twilight Realm
Sages' Story==
Ganondorf is first spoken of about halfway through the game, once Link has completed the Arbiter's Grounds and entered the Mirror Chamber. After finding only a quarter of the Mirror of Twilight, the Ancient Sages tell Link of how the mirror was broken, which was dark power. Power that only he possesses.[29] They are of course referring to Ganondorf. They continue to tell Link Ganon's backstory, which includes Ganon being the leader of a band of thieves who tried to control the Sacred Realm, the location that the Goddesses left the world.[30] However, the Sages explain that he was blind of any danger, and thus was he brought to justice.[31] A cutscene is shown of the Sages executing Ganon, right in the Mirror Chamber. However, Ganon survived because of the Triforce of Power, which he possesses.[32] Fearing Ganon will leave the Mirror Chamber and repeat his previous offenses, the Sages use the Mirror of Twilight to banish Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm. The Ancient Sages continue by suggesting that his power has been passed on to Zant,[33] which Midna responds to with a snide comment on how it is much too late to be figuring out where Zant got his powers.[34] The Sages conclude their speech by telling Link he should be able to collect the fragments of the Mirror of Twilight.[35] Ganondorf is not spoken of again until much later.

Zant's Story==
Once Link has gathered all the Mirror Shards, entered the Palace of Twilight, and confronted Zant, he will again hear more of how Zant got his powers. Zant will start his explanation by telling Link and Midna about how he was tired of living in this world, where there was not the faintest bloom of desire.[36][37] He continues by saying that he believed he would be the next to rule the Twili people, but was denied.[38][39] Zant continues by telling them how he found Ganon, who he refers to as "god".[40] There is then a scene showing Zant on the outdoor area of the Palace of Twilight, smacking the ground in frustration. A large ball appears above Zant's head, and proceeds toward him. It encompasses Zant, and Ganon will be shown, telling Zant that he will store his power in Zant, making whatever Zant desires something Ganon desires too.[41][42] Zant ends his speech by saying that Ganon had only one wish,[43] to merge light and shadow, to make darkness.[44]

After Link has defeated Zant, Zant will reveal to Link and Midna that his god, Ganon, has already descended and been reborn in the World of Light.[1] He continues by showing good faith in Ganon, saying that as long as Ganon survives, he will resurrect Zant without cease.[1] This mini-scene shows how much Zant really praises Ganon, which can be interpreted as Ganon playing Zant so he can be revived in Hyrule, or as a true relationship that has mutual feelings.

Outside of the Throne Room
Confrontation==
Ganon is finally confronted by Link at the very end of Twilight Princess, where he is physically seen for the first time. This confrontation happens at the highest tower of Hyrule Castle, in the Throne Room. Ganon can be found sitting on the throne, with Princess Zelda levitating above him, in the middle of the Triforce statue. He arrogantly introduces himself by welcoming Link and Midna to his castle.[45] After a dramatic scene of Ganon standing up, Ganon begins his speech by making fun of Midna's people, saying it was very pathetic that they defied the gods with petty magic only to be cast aside.[46] He continues by saying the anguish felt by the Twili people acted as his nourishment, as their hatred bled across the void and awakened him.[47][48] He explains why, in his opinion, Midna's people did not succeed; it was because they lacked true power.[49] The kind of power those chosen by the gods wield.[50] He continues by saying that someone with the type of power would make a suitable king, while at the same time holding up his right hand, which has the marking of the Triforce of Power.[51] After Midna vows to deny Ganon what he desires,[52] Ganon redirects their attention to Zelda, who he refers to as their little friend.[53] He uses Twilight-magic to possess Zelda, and this begins the epic four-phase battle that concludes Twilight Princess.

After Link completes the four and final phase of the battle by stabbing Ganon in the middle of his chest with the Master Sword, Ganon states his final words. He says to Link to not think that this is the end.[54] He explains that the history of light and shadow will be written in blood.[55] The scenes continue by showing the Triforce of Power leave Ganon, at which point Zant will appear, in more of an image rather than physically. He leans his head to the right, with a crack. This seemingly ends Ganon, as his eyes roll to the back of his head, and he seizes movement, yet still standing. This is the end of Ganon in Twilight Princess, but it is unconfirmed if he died or not.
