Strategy
The battle takes place on the top of the tower. Link must climb up the ladder to confront the Grim Creeper, who will angrily say Link will wish he was never born.[1] He then jumps on the Evil Eagle and begins to attack. In the original and DX versions, if Link falls off the tower, he will have to restart the entire fight.
Evil Eagle's weak point is his beak. Link can damage it with a variety of weapons, including his sword, bow, bombs, and Hookshot. Evil Eagle will fly around the screen, often soaring above Link's head, making it easiest to try and hit him with the Hookshot as he flies by.
Link will take damage if he gets hit by the Evil Eagle. After being hit three times with the sword, Evil Eagle will add in two other attacks in addition to soaring across the screen. On some occasions, he will pause and then dive at Link, providing an opportunity for the hero to strike his beak. On others, he will attack with a barrage of feathers and wind. When he begins this attack, Link must guard with the Mirror Shield and constantly walk towards Evil Eagle to avoid being blown off the tower. If Link can successfully keep from falling, he can prevent the battle from restarting.
If Link completes Turtle Rock before fighting Evil Eagle by leaving Eagle's Tower after obtaining the Mirror Shield, he can acquire the Magic Rod, which makes the battle significantly easier. After four hits with the Magic Rod, the boss is defeated.
Once the Evil Eagle has been defeated, the Grim Creeper tells Link that he is also within the Wind Fish's dream and will be lost if the Wind Fish awakens.[2] Link will then receive a Heart Container and the seventh Instrument of the Sirens, the Organ of Evening Calm, as rewards.
Trivia
- The Grim Creeper speaks for the Evil Eagle and is the only dungeon boss in Link's Awakening that does not speak.
