Cotton candy is a treat eaten by Deku Scrubs during the events of Echoes of Wisdom.
Echoes of Wisdom
"They're eating spiderwebs... Zelda... Please don't try that stuff."
After rifts open in the Faron Wetlands, spiderwebs begin to come through. Deku Scrubs began to turn these into "cotton candy", wrapping it around sticks, Quickly becoming obsessed, they variously describe it as sweet, delicious, springy, and gluey. It was, in fact, the webs of Gohma, who the Scrubs refer to as "the great spider".
The biggest source was the so-called "dark thorns" of the Stilled Faron Wetlands rift in the building in the north of Scrubton which became the Sweet Spot, and required a Memmbership Card to enter. Other rifts also worked, such as the one at Blossu's House. When Zelda and Tri mended this rift, while Blossu was happy to have his home back, other Scrubs were appalled and threw Zelda in the Deku Scrub Lockup. The Scrub who took her items while imprisoning her even went so far as to use the Tri Rod as a cotton candy stick, to Tri's extreme displeasure when Zelda broke out and recovered it and her other items.
After Zelda and Tri fixed the biggest rift in the Wetlands, the Deku Scrubs as a whole quickly moved on to smoothies as the new trend, but one Scrub was convinced that Smog was a huge ball of cotton candy, and refused to accept the truth even after Zelda tracked him down.
