The Kokiri Sword is a recurring sword in The Legend of Zelda series.
Ocarina of Time
"You got the Kokiri Sword! On the Equipment Subscreen, select it with the cursor and equip it with . This is a hidden treasure of the Kokiri, but you can borrow it for a while. Be sure to practice with it before you really fight!"
In Ocarina of Time, the Kokiri Sword is located inside a treasure chest in a hidden chamber in the back of the Forest Training Center, which Young Link can access by crawling through a hole. It is a shortsword with a wooden cross-guard and pommel, and a dirty brown grip; the cross-guard has a studded pattern along the edge, and a ruby with gold accents is present on both sides. The sword is stated to be a sacred treasure of the Kokiri.
The Kokiri Sword is Young Link's main weapon, enabling him to perform vertical and horizontal slashes, as well as the Jump Attack, to defend himself from enemies. Link must have both the Kokiri Sword and a Deku Shield in order to get past Mido and visit the Great Deku Tree.
Majora's Mask
"Kokiri Sword The trusty sword you're familiar with that's from Kokiri Forest."
In Majora's Mask, Link begins the game with the Kokiri Sword, having kept it following the events of Ocarina of Time. The sword's design has been altered in this game, to reflect the modifications Link has made to it; the cross-guard is now a yellow, metal rectangle, with two stud indentations on either side, a metal frame surrounds the ricasso, the grip has been replaced with a clean white one, and the pommel is a blue, gold-tipped gem.
The Kokiri Sword is Link's main weapon, functioning identically to its appearance in Ocarina of Time. It can be temporarily upgraded to the Razor Sword, and then permanently to the Gilded Sword. After Link obtains the Hero's Bow, the Kokiri Sword can be stolen by Takkuri, requiring him to either purchase it from the Curiosity Shop (which labels it as a Good Sword) for 50 Rupees, or play the Song of Time to reset the three-day loop.
Non-Canon Appearances
This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon. |
Ocarina of Time (Manga)
In the Ocarina of Time manga, the Kokiri Sword is given to Link by Mido after they defeat Queen Gohma. He then uses it to carve a Deku Shield from the Great Deku Tree's wood.
Super Smash Bros. Series
In both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Kokiri Sword is wielded by Young Link. It is based on its appearance in Ocarina of Time.
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, Hyrule Warriors Legends, and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, the Kokiri Sword, based on its Ocarina of Time appearance, appears as a type of bronze Badge. They can be purchased to unlock new attacks for the warrior's default weapon class.
Young Link also wields the Kokiri Sword, based on its Majora's Mask appearance. The Kokiri Sword is much larger than its previous appearance, and is now wielded as a greatsword.
Cadence of Hyrule
- See also: Jeweled Dagger
"You got the Kokiri Sword! Used by Link only. Deals 4 damage to the enemy directly in front of you. Said to be intended for a future hero, this weapon was meant to banish anything in Link's path."
In Cadence of Hyrule, the Kokiri Sword, based on its appearance in Ocarina of Time, is a Legendary Short Sword that can be found in the Future World. It is the strongest Short Sword in the game, dealing 4 damage per hit. It is paired with the Jeweled Dagger, and obtaining said weapon will also unlock the Kokiri Sword.
