[[Link (Ocarina of Time)|Link]] can purchase them from the [[Kokiri Shop]] or the [[Bazaar (Ocarina of Time)|Bazaar]] for 10 [[Rupee|Rupees]] each, from [[Business Scrub|Business Scrubs]] for 15 Rupees each, or find them inside [[Jar|Jars]]. Deku Sticks are also dropped by [[Deku Baba|Deku Babas]] if Link defeats them by cutting their stalk. Deku Sticks can only be used by Young Link. The Japanese name for the Deku Stick, デクの棒 (''Deku no Bou''), is derived from the Japanese idiom 木偶の坊 (''Deku no Bou''). Both phrases have the same pronunciation, but have different spellings and meanings; the latter spelling, 木偶の坊, means "the wooden puppet", a metaphor for an incompetent person. This is referenced in ''Majora's Mask'', where [[Zubora]] calls [[Gabora]] a "Deku Stick" for suggesting they melt the [[Ice]] around their hearth with [[Hot Spring Water]].
