A '''Champion''' is a term used in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]'' to refer to one of a group of individuals of exceptional skill tasked with piloting one of the [[Divine Beast]]s.{{Ref|''[[The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild|Breath of the Wild]]''|We selected four skilled individuals from across Hyrule and tasked them will the duty of piloting the Divine Beasts. With the princess as their commander, we dubbed these pilots Champions – a name that would solidify their unique bond.|King Rhoam}} The term Champion also refers to [[Link (Breath of the Wild)|Link]] as well, as he is called this repeatedly by many of the residents of Hyrule on his journey.

10,000 years prior to ''Breath of the Wild'', the Sheikah had created the four Divine Beasts and four unknown pilots were chosen to control them and work with the hero and the princess of that era to fight the ancient evil. When Calamity Ganon emerged, they fought vigorously and together with the Guardians, they successfully managed to seal Calamity Ganon for 10,000 years. These Champions were only seen in the ancient tapestry and during the tale that Impa tells, but never in the game itself and it was never specified if their races correspond to the respective current Champion.

A century later, Link is awakened by the sound of Zelda's voice. Directed by Zelda, Impa, and the spirit of King Rhoam, Link travels around Hyrule to inquire the assistance of each of the locals that were suffering from the corrupted Divine Beasts' rampages. With the help of [[Sidon|each]] [[Yunobo|of]] [[Teba|four]] [[Riju|individuals]], Link is able to enter the Divine Beasts and purify them and allowing the spirits of the Champions to take back control and fulfil their destinies. Once all of the Divine Beasts are liberated by the time Link confronts Calamity Ganon at Hyrule Castle's Sanctum, the Champions will fire upon it during the final battle, dealing serious damage and taking off up to half of its health. After Calamity Ganon is vanquished and Zelda is free, the Champions' souls as well as King Rhoam will float above Hyrule Castle before they disappear, leaving the two to begin Hyrule's reconstruction.

The Champions are recruited to pilot each of the four Divine Beasts with Mipha being the Zora Champion who controls Divine Beast Vah Ruta, Daruk being the Goron Champion who controls Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Revali being the Rito Champion who controls Divine Beast Vah Medoh, and Urbosa being the Gerudo Champion who controls Divine Beast Vah Naboris. The Champions have fought several battles while preparing for Calamity Ganon's return which would happen at any time before it was revealed to be on Zelda's seventeenth birthday. Terrako plays a pivotal role in not only Hyrule's fate, but also that of the Champions and the Divine Beasts, which is shown when Terrako summons the four Gates of Time to summon the future warriors to protect them from the Blight Ganons, allowing Link and his friends enough time to reach them and dispose of the blights, allowing the Champions to survive and their Divine Beasts to remain under their control. Additionally, they are much more active during the battle, assisting Hyrulean troops and they were able to open fire at Hyrule Castle to weaken Ganon and they managed to defeat [[Astor]], Harbinger Ganon, and eventually Calamity Ganon itself. Because of Terrako's interventions, Hyrule was victorious, the Champions are still alive and well, the Divine Beasts were spared from corruption, Link was never sent to the Shrine of Resurrection, and Princess Zelda herself was never sealed with Ganon. It has yet to be known what future holds for the Champions in this timeline.
