This item sometimes appears after Link has killed an enemy and, if Link is able to collect it, freezes all enemies on the screen, making them easier to attack, but they still injure Link if he touches them. Enemies in an invulnerable state, such as hovering Peahats or the front of Darknuts, also remain invulnerable.

This item is especially useful in screens with lots of enemies, but because of its randomness in terms of appearance, it cannot be relied upon much.  While there is technically no time limit on its use, it works only until a screen transition.
