Bombfish[1] are a type of fish from Twilight Princess[2] and Echoes of Wisdom.

Twilight Princess

"You caught a bombfish! It can be used as a bomb! This fish is forbidden, so it won't be added to your fish journal. Put it in your bomb bag with [A]."

— In-game description

Bombfish can be found in underwater regions of the Lakebed Temple[3] and in a Dig Cavern within the Eldin Province. When Link approaches where one dwells in the temple, the Bombfish comes out from under the sand and attempts to ram into him. When it starts swimming towards Link, he can hold up the shield and let the fish attack him or dodge the fish when it comes towards him. After being blocked or dodged, it swims around before trying to attack Link again.

By going underwater, Link can do a Shield Bash that blocks and harms the Bombfish or use the sword to attack it. Link can also use the Clawshot to grapple on to the Bombfish and carry it.[4] Another way for Link to attack them is by going on land and using the Hero's Bow. Once hit, the Bombfish sparks and afterwards explodes, damaging Link and destroying itself.[5] Link can simply throw the Bombfish or move away from it before it explodes to not get hurt.[6] While they are not very dangerous, Bombfish can be useful to blow up rocks underwater that are in Link's way if he does not have any Water Bombs.[7]

In the Lakebed Temple, Link can find a Bombfish in the maze-like room within the west-side of the dungeon. Later, during the first phase of Morpheel, it releases many Bombfish to distract Link when he attacks the boss's eye.[8]

In the Eldin Province, a Dig Cavern can be found with Link's Wolf form near the Bridge of Eldin. Here, many Bombfish can be found swimming in the shallow water. Similar to the Skullfish, Link can catch one of these fish with the Fishing Rod, but it is not added to his Fish Journal due to it being forbidden to catch one.[9] However, Link is allowed to put the fish into a Bomb Bag filled with Water Bombs if it is not full.[10]
