Bees are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.[1] They appear when Link disturbs certain trees. Bees usually attack in groups, and they can be difficult to deal with.
A Link to the Past
In A Link to the Past, Bees sometimes appear when Link dashes into trees with the Pegasus Boots. Sometimes, a single Bee appears, and other times, a group of Bees appears. Bees can be caught and stored in a Bottle using the Bug Net.
When a Bee is released from a Bottle, it will attack a nearby enemy a number of times before flying off.
Golden Bee
- Main article: Golden Bee
Another variation of the Bee also appears in A Link to the Past with a shiny blue color. Referred to as Good Bee in the SNES version and Golden Bee in the Game Boy Advance remake, this Bee is a more powerful ally in combat than the regular Bee as it will not fly away. Link can also sell the Golden Bee in Kakariko Village for 100 Rupees.
Link's Awakening
Bees are only seen once in Link's Awakening, during the Trading Sequence. Link finds Tarin in Ukuku Prairie watching a hive of Bees. When he sees Link's Stick, he asks to borrow it.[2] He then tries to knock down the beehive with it, but they end up coming out of the hive and attacking him, chasing him away. Link can pick up the Honeycomb after Tarin and the Bees disappear.[3]
Majora's Mask
- Main article: Giant Bee
The type of Bee that appears in Majora's Mask is referred to as the Giant Bee. They are very similar to the likes of the Hylian Hornet from Twilight Princess, in both size and attack. They are very rare and are only encountered in three areas; the Swamp Spider House, the Mountain Village (Spring), and the Pirates' Fortress. The Giant Bees do not appear that much in the game, but Link must shoot down a beehive within the Pirates' Fortress to obtain the Hookshot.
Four Swords Adventures
In Four Swords Adventures, Bees are a rare but hostile enemy that appear in the Lost Woods. They hide within many different trees in the area. When the Links approach, the Bees reveal themselves and attack in groups of seven. Unlike in previous games, the Links cannot harm them with the Four Sword. However, they are attracted to smoke of a bomb, which can be used to distract them.
Twilight Princess
- Main article: Hylian Hornet
Bees in Twilight Princess are called Hylian Hornets. They are seen a couple of times, and serve the main purpose of making Bee Larvae, which Link can use as bait with his Fishing Rod.
Phantom Hourglass
In Phantom Hourglass, some trees on Cannon Island have beehives on them. When Link rolls into these trees, the Bees will emerge and attack relentlessly. A spin attack is the best way to defeat them. Bees also appear on Dee Ess Island in random spots on the ground. Link only knows they are there after digging them up.
Spirit Tracks
In Spirit Tracks, when Link rolls into or hits a tree with a beehive, the Bees will come out and attack. The way they attack is very similar to the Bees in Phantom Hourglass and several other games. They will fly away if Link jumps into water or enters a new area. Sometimes, the beehive will drop Bee Larvae. Besides opening chests, this is the only way to obtain Bee Larvae.
A Link Between Worlds
In A Link Between Worlds, Bees can be found when cutting tall grass in Hyrule. They can be caught with the Net, placed in a Bottle, and sold to the Bee Guy in Kakariko Village. The Bee Guy gives Link 50 Rupees for each regular Bee.
Golden Bees can also be found in the grass, but are much more rare. After catching one and giving it to the Bee Guy, he gives Link the Bee Badge. This prevents Bees from stinging Link and makes them fight enemies fearlessly alongside him. Golden Bees are worth 300 Rupees when sold.
Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, Bees can be found in hives next to trees in the overworld. If Link alerts the bees, they will attack him. If Link successfully gets rid of the bees, he can go to their hive to gain Courser Bee Honey.
