What If The Legend of Zelda was an MMORPG?!

Tired of all the Skyward Sword spoilers and wanting something new? Well have you ever wondered how a multiplayer Zelda game would work out? I’m pretty sure that almost everyone wishes they could just plug in another controller and instantly have multiplayer. I’m not too sure how it would fit into the story though. Could two or more reincarnations of Link really be alive at the exact same time or would the second player be able to pick from another race like the Gorons, Zora, Hylian Knight, Gerudo, etc… The Legend of Zelda series has a ton of great races anyone would like to play as. Nintendo experimented with this in Majora’s Mask allowing us to transform into a Goron, Zora, a Deku Scrub and even Fierce Deity via a mask received after healing their soul after dying, but it didn’t have one ounce of multiplayer.
Well, I’ve always wanted a true 3D multiplayer Zelda game and while scrolling through GoNintendo‘s site I found a link from IGN taking me to what is probably the closest thing we will ever even see to a real multiplayer Zelda game atleast for now. While it is just an awesomely modded version of Medieval II: Total War by UndyingNephalim made to look like Twilight Princess, it looks surprisingly like a real Zelda game and while I’m not much of a fan of games like this I would probably play it if I could get it to look this amazing. If your wanting to know more about what I’m talking about than keep reading and watch the video after the jump!
Like I said this is not a Zelda game. It is a modded version of the game Medieval II: Total War to look like a Zelda game and while it doesn’t have the Zelda adventure feel to it, it does seem like a great idea Nintendo could take with a spin off Zelda title. We have always been curious about all of the wars mentioned throughout the series and what better way to let us experience them than have an MMORPG based Zelda game that played like this. Maybe the battles could be a main part in the online multiplayer aspect. The reason Link wouldn’t be featured in the war itself could be because he is off adventuring through dungeons and trying to find the key items that are necessary to defeat Ganon or whoever the evil force is behind the war. As he collected the items he could bring them to the King of Hyrule advancing the battle, which would be the single player aspect of the game and could even incorporate some kind of multiplayer function to it having the other play as another Link or as I mentioned earlier one of the other races. On the other side of this they could include the option to play as a character from the evil side whether it be a Dark Link or some other character. A Dark Link would definitely get my vote though!
Just remember this video is in no way related to the Zelda series aside from just being a mod. As of right now Nintendo is no way making a game like this or at least to my knowledge. With that out of the way it would be in my opinion an incredibly awesome idea for a game that could take full advantage of having the two separate screens for the Wii U. Just throwing that out there Nintendo! The screen on the TV could have your personal character while the controller screen has the top down view of the battle with the option to give orders via touch screen buttons. With the single player adventure part of the game it could be exactly how we seen the Wii U Zelda Demo playout or they could use the touch controller for the multiplayer wars and the motion controls for the single player adventure.
Well these are my thoughts on this. The video really struck my imagination on what could be implemented into an online Zelda game for the Wii U, but what about you? Did you find it as awesome as I did? How do you think an online or MMORPG version of Zelda would play out. Leave us your thoughts in the comments below and remember to keep checking back for more Zelda updates!
