Screen Shot 2015-05-15 at 7.28.31 PMPuzzle & Dragons (Pazuru Ando Doragonzu in Japan) started life as a free-to-play mobile game released in 2012 by Gungho Online Entertainment. The title is a puzzle game with strong RPG elements where you have to battle monsters, solve puzzles, and survive numerous dungeons. Do some of these elements sound familiar? The game released to much fanfare with numerous collaborations over the years in Japan. Now we see it make the jump to dedicated gaming devices with its release of Puzzle & Dragons Z and Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition for the 3DS. The two games are being released as one, already having landed on other countries shores and next week in the U.S. on May 22.

But what if instead we had Puzzle & Dragons: The Legend of Zelda Edition? Head past the jump to see what it might be like!

The collaboration of Puzzle & Dragons and the Super Mario Bros. series seems a little strange to me and I can’t help but wonder if there might not have been another game that would have been a better partner, I mean just think about the name; Puzzle & Dragons Z, its right there in the name. For the most part The Legend of Zelda series has all the elements I just spoke about Puzzle & Dragons having, not to mention that many of the attributes within the Zelda series could have been merged into a puzzle game.

Screen Shot 2015-05-15 at 8.13.34 PMImagine if it was based off of Twilight Princess where you would have to use all your puzzle matching skills to save Hyrule by defeating Bokoblin, Redead Knights, and White Wolfos. To do so you would have to match Rupees and Potions, all with different benefits and damage points. You could even get bonus points by matching some extra special items like Tears of Light to deal extra damage so you can make your way through the all the mini-bosses and dungeons like Skull Kid and Phantom Zant until you reach the ultimate boss battle at the end and test your wits against Ganon.

What if instead the game was based off of A Link Between Worlds? Where to save Hyrule and Lorule youScreen Shot 2015-05-15 at 8.31.48 PM have to match Rupees and Potions as well, but this time your special item could be the various weapons from Ravio and it they could have special buffs or damage being inflicted based on their type. Here you would have to battle through Armos, Eyegores, and Taro to make your way through to each dungeons boss, like Margomill and Gemesaur King. Once all the bosses have been slain you will then and only then have a chance to test your puzzle matching abilities against Yuga!

Just thinking about a few of the possibilities has made me really wish that this was the type of collaboration we would be seeing. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the demo of Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Edition and I will definitely be picking it up,  but I will most likely spend all my time only playing one of the games inside. Which do you think that will be?

What do you think? Do you think the Zelda series would lend well to a puzzle game, and if so what other Zelda games would work well? Tell us all about it in the comments below.
