Voice Acting in Zelda?

Should voice acting be incorporated into the Legend of Zelda series? Scott Clarke from IGN wants to know what you think. Throughout the series, characters have communicated via text boxes. Anyone who has played the games more than once knows that this can become frustrating. There aren’t many ways to speed up the text and if you accidentally hit the wrong option, like during Kaepora Gaebora’s (owl from Ocarina of Time) speeches, you are forced to read the whole thing again. Then there is Link, who does not talk at all. You, as the player, choose his response for him and what you choose determines what happens next in the game. Scott Clarke seems to be split on the issue. He first says that he is a fan of silent Link but then goes to question if we are too accustom to games with voice acting and what it adds to the gaming experience.

I am a fan of the silent protagonist. On the other hand, open-world games like the Zelda series live and die by how well the universe captivates the player. Are we too acclimatised to games like Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect, where voice acting brings so much charm, believability and depth to the experience? Can we once again get lost in the muted kingdom of Hyrule?

Personally, I like the lack of voice acting in Zelda games. I think it has worked for Zelda for 25 years and I think Nintendo can make great games in the future without talking characters. If a game ever is confirmed for the Wii U I believe they will be more focused on the graphics and game play than whether or not the characters actually talk.

So, should Nintendo put voice acting into Zelda games? If they did, do you think it would make the games better or would it ruin them? Do you like Link as the silent hero or do you want to hear him speak? Let us know in the comments!
