Now that

Super Smash Bros. has released in Japan and some U.S. players have gotten their hands on a demo code via Club Nintendo Platinum Memberships, players are getting a feel for how some of the characters play. Ever since the announcement of the Villager, fans have been waiting to smile gleefully as they wail on their opponents. The Villager’s moves consist of dropping bowling balls, chopping down trees, and putting opponents’ attacks in his pocket. The latter ability has proven to be more useful than previously thought as shown in the video above.

The video shows the Villager pocketing

Link‘s Final Smash. There is no confirmation on this working against other characters’ Final Smashes yet, but I expect players to start testing the theory immediately. Does this influence your decision on playing as the Villager? What do you think about the potential of this ability? Let us know in the comments below.

Update: “Pocketing” the attack is merely used as a reference to the move that cancels the Final Smash. The power is not stored away as when the Pocket Counter is successful, but it is merely canceled. This is indicated by the shrugging of the Villager after the cancel denoting that the countered attack can’t be stored for later use. Thank you to our fans who caught that and helped keep us accurate.
