I’ve written before about how I listen to all different styles of remixes of Zelda music. So, imagine my surprise when I found out about VGM CON, an “annual celebration of live video game music, panels, workshops, a speedrun marathon, tournaments, indie games, artists, and more!” VGM CON will gather over 650 attendees and creators in person and online from April 14th to 16th, 2023 at Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West in Plymouth, Minnesota.

This year’s theme is “Oops, All Zelda,” with the convention hosting a plethora of special guests from within the Zelda creator community, including Ian Cowell, insaneintherainmusic, and Ro Panuganti. Music styles such as symphony orchestra, synth, funk, jazz, rock, rap, hip-hop, and more will all be represented at this amazing convention.

Other events will include:

  • Midwest Speedfest charity speed running marathon (benefitting Protez Foundation)
  • Open gaming and tournaments (hosted by Highlander Games)
  • Orchestra Clinic
  • Music Jam Space
  • Recital
  • Indie Game Developers
  • Artists and Exhibitors
  • Live Music Stages
  • Cosplay
  • Charity Album Jam
  • Game Music Remix Awards

VGM Con offers two ways to attend. First, you can register right here to purchase tickets to attend in-person. When purchased online, tickets for adults (16+) are $68 USD for the weekend, $32 USD for Friday and Sunday, respectively, and $42 USD for Saturday. Ticket prices go up when purchased at the door.

You can also register to attend online as part of a virtual event right here. The free online content is separate from the in-person show. The virtual event will be streamed on the Twitch channels for VGM Con and Midwest Speedfest and will include events on VGM Con’s Discord server right here.

The convention also has a COVID policy that must be followed by all in-person attendees.

This year’s theme of “Oops All Zelda” one month before Tears of the Kingdom comes out is perfect. Hype among fans should be at an all-time high. I cannot wait to get together with other fans of video game music and The Legend of Zelda in April. Is this something you would attend? Are you going to check out the free online events? Should there be an all-Zelda themed convention? Let us know in the comments!
