The Sequel to Breath of the Wild Has Been Delayed to Spring 2023

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma announced this morning that the hotly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild has been delayed to Spring 2023. Aonuma apologized for the delay on behalf of the game’s development team and explained that, “in order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game.”
Following the announcement, Aonuma did share a bit of new information about Breath of the Wild‘s sequel. In addition to the adventure taking place in the skies above, as we learned last year, Aonuma shared that the game’s expanded world will include “an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and new gameplay elements.” This portion of the announcement video concludes with a brief — yet exciting — never-before-seen clip of the game.
Nintendo initially announced a 2022 release date for the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild during last year’s E3 Direct presentation. Quite humorously, this new delay calls to mind Breath of the Wild‘s final delay from 2016 to Spring 2017.
The sequel to Breath of the Wild is scheduled for release Spring 2023.
