The Legend of Zelda movie hasn’t been privy to rumors or chatter recently. The only concrete pieces of information fans have are the names of several key players in its direction and production. However, Nintendo recently released its Corporate Management Policy Briefing, which contained some illuminating tidbits about the film’s future.
The movie will come before the end of the decade, as it is currently scheduled for the year “202X.” Based on the imagery in the document, Nintendo may not even touch the project until after other film commitments. The bullet point, in vague words, merely confirmed Nintendo is “planning and developing a live-action film of The Legend of Zelda.” In the meantime, fans can look forward to the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie in April 2026.
The Briefing digs deep into Nintendo’s financial intentions in the Cash Utilization section. The document states:
“In addition to conventional investments in R&D and capital expenditure, we are also strengthening investments in these other fields… we plan to further utilize cash on hand to help continue delivering movies and other forms of visual content.”
This spending category could receive up to ¥50 billion yen, signifying a notable commitment to this project’s success.
