If you follow Zelda and/or this site at all, you know about the all-new Zelda title coming to 3DS, currently referred to as A Link to the Past 2 or simply Zelda 3DS by fans. You also probably know that this new game will use the same overhead camera perspective (something called for by our very own Dathen months ago) and likely the same overworld map. This has sparked quite a bit of speculation, division, and debate among the fanbase, some of which has been personally addressed herehere, and here by our very own bossman Nate.

That said, if you’re worried that this is going to be another “overhead versus full 3D” article, don’t worry; it’s not. Neither is it an article detailing why Zelda 3DS should spawn a subseries of generic, samey 2D action-adventure titles full of too much retro-pandering. Rather, I’d like to address a concern that has gotten surprisingly little coverage except in a few articles’ comments (some of which were from myself), and that is this: What if A Link to the Past 2 brings Zelda down the route of New Super Mario Bros.?

I considered simply titling this article “What Can A Link to the Past 2 Learn From New Super Mario Bros.?,” and in a way, I guess you could say that it’s sort of a sequel to my previous article, “What Can Zelda Learn From Mega Man?” But that title would’ve been misleading, since this is less about saying what Zelda in general can learn from NSMB, and more about saying what certain great elements Zelda 3DS can take from NSMB in particular. Plus, it outlines the things Zelda 3DS shouldn’t take from NSMB. With that said, let’s get started after the jump.

A Link to the Past 2 has been given over to the press for first-hand impressions towards what will be Link’s newest handheld adventure in four long years (not counting Ocarina of Time 3D) and already the game is looking visually great. While testing the demo, some journalists have recorded themselves and the game’s look on the 3DS XL system which has also revealed what we can expect to be displayed on the touch screen. Would you like to know…

The original A Link to the Past featured 20 slots, and looks like the direct sequel will be following that trend with it’s inventory space. It’s notable it contains a bottle, meaning that it’s not just 20 “new toys” to play with as assuredly a lot of other various stuff will get packed into that 20 slot bag. That being said, what items do you think will make a return?

Good morning (or afternoon, evening, whenever you happen to read this) Zelda Dungeoners! It’s that time of the week again; Friday morning has come, and that means another Flute Boy’s Meadow! This week, I’d like to take a quick break from my series on Overworld Themes in order to give special attention to the game everyone’s talking about: Zelda 3DS, AKA A Link to the Past II, AKA “Nintendo is making my childhood very happy this Christmas.” Thanks to the…

This is definitively the best footage we are going to possibly get for Zelda 3DS until a future event, likely E3, occurs. That being said, while the player himself is not necessarily fantastic, the quality of the video is unquestioned. It also does well to show how someone less skilled at Zelda is still able to solve puzzles and you can see how he tries to work through the copious amount of solutions there are to the tasks at hand. Of course, we have to point out the music… which to me personally is simply fantastic. It also shows just how far handheld sound has come over the years, where this new rendition of A Link to the Past dungeon music is simply superb.

That being said, we hope you have enjoyed our coverage of the game to this point. I think it’s safe to say we wont be hearing much about it again until June.

In one of the clearest demo videos we’ve seen today, German Nintendo fansite NiNTENDOMiNATiON has brought us an excellent look at the exclusive Zelda 3DS demo with a full thirteen minutes of footage. Not only does this new video show us a full dungeon’s worth of gameplay, but it also has a direct audio feed so we get to hear the music and other game sounds perfectly. The results sound beautiful. It’s been a whirlwind 48 hour period for us Zelda fans, and

I don’t blame you if you have been unable to keep up. There is a lot happening

and so much information hitting us it’s rather astonishing to try and sit back and

take it all in. That’s what happens when you get a full game announced out of

the blue and have a full dungeon playable as a demo the same day.

Whatever Kool-Aid Nintendo is sipping this year, they need

to keep it flowing because it’s been a great 2013 so far in terms of news. I

have compiled all of our news, videos, information, and additional breakdowns

into one easy to navigate spot. In addition, I go deep into some initial

impressions of the experience based upon my own knowledge of the series and I spend

a little bit of time just talking about what looks good and what gives pause

for concern.

Bill Trinen sat down with Adam Sessler and he really talked in-depth about a lot of great content coming to the 3DS. It’s was nice to see and open and honest discussion with some great questions being talked about. Naturally, Zelda 3DS was a topic talked about early on and while we have known Miyamoto wanted to remake A Link to the Past in 3D, it’s interesting hearing how he really influenced this game into creation.

I hope we can see more interviews shed some light in the coming days.
