It appears the past week or so has been Speedrun heaven, as we’ve seen our 3rd record breaking Speedrun of a Zelda game, but this time for a game other than Ocarina of Time. It’s counterpart, Majora’s Mask, had a new record set just today. This was a new world record for an Any% run, which meant that yes, glitches are allowed. I know the use of glitches is a point of contention for many, but it’s also something a large contingency of fans enjoy. A few days ago, speedrunner Jodenstone continued his Ocarina of Time supremacy by setting a new Any% record of 18 minutes and 5 seconds using a newly-discovered glitch. Today, speedrunner skater82297 (known for discovering many glitches used in the current Any% route) set a new record by shaving 2 seconds off Jodenstone’s time. Even after setting his impressive time of 18 minutes and 3 seconds, skater82297 still has his sights on a time under 18 minutes and is currently streaming his attempts on his Twitch channel

Ever since the birth of Ocarina of Time, speedrunners have been blasting their way through it using any tactics they can: back flips, sliding, glitches, wall running, etc. Yesterday, the record for fastest completion of the game was broken by a man named Joel Westerberg, who already held the record but decided to break it again.

Back on January 1 we reported that Jodenstone had attempted the seemingly impossible task of beating former Ocarina of Time speed run champ Cosmo Wright’s world record any % run time of 18:10. Jodenstone amazed us all as his hard work paid off, earning him a final time of 18:07 and the world record title. Popular Zelda speedrunner Cosmo Wright has recently beaten the world record time for completing Ocarina of Time. The previous “any%” world record holder, skater82297, had beaten the game in a solid 19 minutes, but Cosmo managed to sneak past that time by a mere four seconds, landing a record of 18 minutes and 56 seconds.
