Last week, Nintendo started up a “Super Smashing Sale” in celebration of the impending release of

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (it’s out right now in Japan, you know. Timezones and stuff). Each week until the North American launch of the game, select titles featuring the next Smash‘s characters will go on sale on the Nintendo eShop, allowing us gamers to experience the classic games that made these characters worthy of joining the Smash Bros. fight. The first week of the sale focused mainly on Mario characters, but this week? This week it’s all about The Legend of Zelda

There was a time when we as Zelda fans did not have a ton of variety to choose from for our handheld pleasures. There were not very many original Zelda titles that were available on the Game Boy Advance, and in the distant past of 2004 we received the bright light that is The Minish Cap. This game was the last true top down Zelda game until the recent A Link Between Worlds and that was almost a decade ago! The game is under appreciated and I think it deserves an extra little bit of love from us…

It’s been a long while since our last Zelda Versus series, one that ended with Midna taking the crown as Best Partner character. This time around we’re focusing squarely on soundtracks. Zelda is full of memorable music, but this voting contest goes far beyond individual masterpieces – we’re looking for you to determine your favorite overall soundtrack for a given game. You may use any criteria you wish to make your vote. Today we have The Minish Cap facing off against Oracle of Ages.

Hello and welcome to another edition of Would You Rather! Last time we discussed some more masks for Link, and it looks like you guys preferred the Keaton Mask, with the Skull Mask coming in at a close second. If you missed out on the fun you can check out that match-up here. This week I have yet another fun pairing for all the readers to vote on! Hit the jump to find out what it is!

As of late, the retro vibe has been quite popular in indie titles. While many of these creations are infused with a good deal of originality and respect for the games which inspired them, it’s hard to know when to draw the line between “inspired by” and “copied from”. And since the Legend of Zelda series has set the standard for so many games, this is an especially tough call. Join the debate inside!

Have you been wanting to play The Minish Cap? Did you miss out on the original release? The Minish Cap is now available on the Wii U worldwide, having just released today in North America. Personally, The Minish Cap is one of the most enjoyable games I have played in the series, so a chance to put it on the big screen makes me smile. Are you going to buy it? What’s your favorite memory from the game?

Time and time again, Zelda fans prove they are some of the most passionate and creative followers on the planet. This animation project is no different.

Tumblr user Pencil Test creates art for dozens of video game franchises. Yet he’s never created a moving picture as gorgeous as this. The artist is working on an animated Zelda project in Maya, After Effects, and Photoshop. He’s combining actual photos with a Minish-sized hero of Hyrule. He says he’s working on a short film, but right now all we have are a few animated gifs.

The picture to the left is only a taste of what’s to come. Watch the animation in motion, as well as a second gif, after the jump.

A few months ago, Nintendo announced that they would be releasing GameBoy Advance titles on the Wii U Virtual Console. The initial wave of releases held several different titles from different series, Zelda not among them. Sometime last night, Nintendo updated their site with a page for The Minish Cap on Wii U Virtual Console. Hit the jump to read more!

Need something to do on your Wii U? Well look no

further, because Nintendo has announced that they will be putting the Gameboy

Advanced Classic, The Legend of Zelda: The

Minish Cap,onto Wii U Virtual

Console. No release date has been set, but we can expect it to be coming within

the next few weeks! If you haven’t given The

Minish Cap a shot before, or haven’t played it in quite some time, I’d

highly recommend you to fire up your Wii U and download this gem. From its

vibrant color palette, to its unique dungeon designs, to its incredible

antagonist, Vaati, The Minish Cap is one of the most enjoyable games in the entire Zelda series that is often under looked

by even some veteran Zelda fans. I

can promise you won’t regret picking it up!

It was announced a few months ago that the Wii U would be getting GBA games, and while we haven’t heard much else about it since, we now know Japan will be getting The Minish Cap rather soon. We have no idea if or when it will be released in other areas, but it is a rather safe assumption it will be at some point this year.
