Let’s begin by saying that while there are better and worse Zelda games, even the worst Zelda game is infinitely better than most games by other developers. In those rare instances wherein Nintendo has faltered, other non-Nintendo games rack up the misstep tally ten to Nintendo’s one. But–like any of us–Nintendo is not infallible. And today we’re here to talk about where they failed the most in each and every title… based on our own varied opinions as fans of…

Welcome to another Flute Boy’s Meadow, Zelda Dungeoners – now coming every Friday morning! What has become known as the “Theme Song” of the Zelda franchise originally began as its first overworld theme. Since those days of 8-Bit music the song has seen great advancements, as well as revisions for newer titles. Overall it has served as the primary overworld theme for four different Zelda games and as a “secondary” theme in even more. Since the primary purpose of this…

Let’s face it; Link has a pretty iconic look. There have been plenty of times over the years when people tried to copy or parody his design with their attempts always looking more or less conspicuous. German baking company Pickerd Dekor is one such “copy-cat.” For one of their products, a colored icing called “Ritter-schrift” (“Knight Font/Lettering”), Pickerd’s package designers used a knightly character whose appearance and pose are strikingly similar to our favorite tight-wearing hero. The land of Hyrule has long been divided into various themed regions, originally with common themes such as mountains, deserts, and lakes. However, as the series developed, more distinct and fantastic regions were added, giving players a larger amount of variety. In particular, there was the relatively recent addition of a sky realm, which has brought this region of Hyrule into the mythology of Zelda. In the early games, the land of Hyrule only consisted of the overworld and the…

Our favorite Zelda fan over at IGN, Audrey Drake, recently posted an article comparing Skyward Sword to Minish Cap. Item similarities like the Mole Mitts/Mogma Mitts and the Gust Jar/Gust Bellow are pretty obvious if you’ve played Minish Cap and are keeping up with the news of Skyward Sword. There’s also the visual similarities of Vaati and Ghirahim. Jump inside for more similarities.

This week our featured fanart is “Minish” by deviantART artist Poketix.

The Legend of Zelda is the game series that we all know and love. Almost all of us hold the Super Mario series very close to us as well. For a lot of us, Super Mario 64 was our very first video game ever. I love them both, but has the Zelda series made decisions so that the games are stuck at a standstill?

These days we seem to be hearing more and more talk about the Zelda series getting stale. Nintendo reusing the same structure in each game is a good example. And I don’t just mean the game in general (collect three items, plot twist, collect some more items, final showdown). I’m also talking about specific elements, such as dungeon structure. Even other elements of the series have been reused again and again. Villains, items, plot twists, kidnappings, magical objects. Some people…

The folks over at The Kartel have put together a list of the wackiest video game sidekicks that we didn’t care about until now. Several Nintendo characters made the list including Waluigi from the Super Mario Bros series, Slippy Toad from Star Fox, and Magikarp from Pokemon. However, the character we care about that made the list is Ezlo, from The Minish Cap. Yup, the talking hat, who we later find out is cursed by Vaati, is one of the…
