The first day of the Electronic Entertainment Expo is starting to wrap up, but we got a lot of news out of the event. A lot of Zelda news, that is.

The mysterious A Link to the Past sequel being developed for Nintendo 3DS got a full unveiling today. The game is called The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, calling back to the title of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System classic. I guess you could say there’s a Link between the titles!

Get it? A Link? Because Link is the Hero of Time and the dictionary says tha… Fine. Look, I am writing this to recap the news. I make bad jokes, so we’ll both need to deal with it. Either way, you’re stuck with me.

Let’s get on with the summary after the jump!

Man, please tell me I am not alone in thinking this looks really tasty… and that’s off screen footage! While I really enjoyed the original game, The Wind Waker HD feels like it’s hitting at just the right time for me as a Wii U owner. We at Zelda Informer have been trying our best to bring you all The Wind Waker HD content you could want. From the E3 Trailer to new screenshots to developer interviews to The Wind Waker HD Walkthrough, we are striving to provide you everything we can Wind Waker.

It may not be Zelda U, but I’m sure excited. What do you think so far?

Man, while many of us didn’t realistically expect to see Zelda U today, apparently there was a real possibility it was going to happen. Nintendo actually discussed showing it, as apparently the game is much further along in development than they were planning. This comes from a conversation Game Informer had with Shigeru Miyamoto a couple hours ago:

“We’re also working on a new Wii U Zelda game. Work on that is progressing fairly concretely. In fact, we were thinking about showing it here at E3 but decided to wait just a little bit longer before sharing it with everyone.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

Just a bit longer. I think a 2014 release is starting to become a real possibility, and I could actually see them showing this in a Spring 2014 Direct Showcase to help maintain holiday momentum of the Wii U. That, or naturally at the E3 Direct next year. In either case, we were very close to seeing the future of Zelda on the Wii U today. So close. Soon, our loyal fans. Soon.

No, we didn’t get any confirmation on what direction Nintendo is leaning for Zelda U. That being said, Geoff Keighly still was able to get Miyamoto to make some comments in regards to Zelda U:

Geoff Keighley: …will it be more realistic like that (Zelda U Tech Demo)?

Shigeru Miyamoto: I can’t say right now. I’m prohibited from speaking on that, but what I can say is that this Legend of Zelda game is going to be one that we’re making so that it is the perfect Zelda for Wii U, both in terms of new types of gameplay but also from a visual standpoint. So you can look forward to some very high quality visuals with the art style of this game.

I only wish Miyamoto’s word on this was enough to reassure me that Nintendo makes the correct call. To be fair, Skyward Sword‘s art direction was a perfect fit for the non-HD Wii… but with a more powerful console to build for, it will really be interesting to see what direction they go. I only hope this Zelda really does end up being the perfect fit on Nintendo’s new console. The above quotes came from a live interview with Miyamoto on GameTrailers.

I am stoked for The Wind Waker HD, and these new images have done nothing but reaffirm my belief that this was the correct choice for a quick turnaround HD remake for Wii U. While we will be upgrading our Wind Waker HD Walkthrough shortly, we want to be sure we keep you up to date with all the latest happenings. Hop inside to see some high quality screenshots and art as provided to us by Nintendo themselves.

Fresh off the just recently revealed trailer for the all new 3DS adventure set for later this year, we have a small batch of 10 screenshots to show off with all new stuff. I’m really starting to get excited for this game… maybe more so that it deserves. I’ll have some thoughts on all of this later, but for now head inside to see the all new screens.

Oh, the official art to the left is beautiful, is it not? Give us more, Nintendo!

Are you ready for some Smash Bros.? Well, we have to wait until 2014 to get our hands on it, but the trailer did not disappoint. While Megaman was definitely the star of the show (yes, Megaman is in Smash!), that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a fair bit of Zelda love between the two versions. There are two new Zelda stages, one being in Skyloft and the other aboard Link’s train in Spirit Tracks. There is some slightly altered art styles between the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, but that’s to be expected given the power differences of the devices. Head inside to see a slew of all new Zelda-related Smash screenshots!

Zelda 3DS now has an official title, and boy am I really enjoying it. A Link Between Worlds just sounds fantastic, and the above trailer does the game a great justice. Enjoy the footage. We’ll have more information and a further breakdown later today!

In today’s Nintendo Direct, Mr. Iwata just showed off the first real footage of The Wind Waker HD. In the footage we learned the official title of the game: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. We also discovered they added a feature to speed up sailing, the most common complaint. Additionally, they have replaced the Tingle Tuner with the Tingle Bottle, which you can use to create Miiverse messages. Throw it into the sea, and it will wash up on the shore of other players’ games to read. Pretty nifty. Of course, they said these are just some of the new features, suggesting there are many more they just aren’t revealing right now. Oh, and the game is in full 1080p with enhanced shading and visuals. Be sure to check out or The Wind Waker HD Walkthrough later this year.
