Universal Orlando Resort recently posted on X that its Universal Epic Universe will open on May 22nd, 2025. It will host five worlds in a single theme park, including Super Nintendo World.

As previously reported here at Zelda Dungeon, the Orlando, Florida park’s opening has been projected for 2025 since earlier this year, but now we have a definitive date for those who want to start planning their visit and making travel arrangements. The four other worlds planned for Epic Universe are The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park.

While the world of The Legend of Zelda and other notable Nintendo franchises have not been included in the park’s advertising, immersive environments from two storied Nintendo franchises will be welcoming guests – Super Mario and Donkey Kong. Our favorite Italian plumber Mario and his friends from the Mushroom Kingdom will be there, which is sure to bring a smile to any Nintendo enthusiast. The world of Donkey Kong Country will whisk patrons away into a land of ancient ruins and a banana-filled jungle.

The area will include three rides ranging from the more all-ages to the more thrilling. Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge will give riders an augmented reality (AR) interactive experience of participating in a Mario Kart race. Yoshi’s Adventure will offer a family-friendly attraction puttering along through iconic Mushroom Kingdom scenes. Mine-Cart Madness will provide a roller coaster thrill ride through the Golden Temple where the mine cart will seemingly jump across gaps in the track, an experience reminiscent of the Donkey Kong Country games.

For those willing to pay an additional cost to purchase a Power-Up Band, guests can interact with five challenges to collect digital keys. The tasks involve facing familiar enemies from the Super Mario series including Goombas, Piranha Plants, Koopa Troopas, Bob-ombs, and Thwomps. If three keys are collected, patrons can face Bowser Jr. in a final Shadow Showdown. Power-Up Bands are available in eight varieties with character colors and symbols featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Daisy, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong.
