Summer Games Done Quick 2016 Schedule Includes Five Zelda Titles

Summer Games Done Quick, the annual speedrunning marathon for charity, is set to kick off on July 3. The event’s massive, week-long schedule was recently announced by organizers, and it looks like viewers have a great number of exciting speedruns to look forward to. Among the seven days worth of speedruns, Summer Games Done Quick’s schedule will include runs of five different Zelda games, such as a Glitchless run of Ocarina of Time, a 100% run of Link’s Awakening DX, and an Any% run of A Link Between Worlds.
Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) is a speedrunning marathon held every summer with the goal of raising money for charity. This year, as with several previous years, the event will be raising money for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières), an organization that delivers emergency medical aid to afflicted people around the world.
SGDQ 2016 is set to begin on Sunday, July 3 and continue through the following week; the event will then come to a conclusion on Saturday, July 9. The event will be streamed live both on the Games Done Quick website and its Twitch channel.
Speedruns of five different Zelda titles are scheduled throughout the week:
- A Link Between Worlds Any% on Sunday, July 3 (tentative start at 11:33 AM Pacific)
- Link’s Awakening DX 100% on Monday, July 4 (tentative start at 3:49 PM Pacific)
- Four Swords Adventures Any% on Monday, July 4 (tentative start at 5:24 PM Pacific)
- The Adventure of Link Any% Warpless on Thursday, July 7 (tentative start at 6:26 AM Pacific)
- Ocarina of Time Any% Glitchless on Friday, July 8 (tentative start at 6:59 PM Pacific)
If you’ve never seen a Zelda speedrun before, and you have no qualms with the use of glitches in some specific cases, I highly recommend you check out the event. Watching Zelda players execute precise movements and exploit in-game tricks offers a brand new perspective on your favorite Zelda game. Of course, even if you have strong feelings toward glitches in a Zelda speedrun, the glitchless run of Ocarina of Time can still be great watch.
