Smooth McGroove Begins Playthrough of Original Legend of Zelda

YouTube superstar Smooth McGroove is well known for his solo a cappella renditions of classic video game songs. In addition to his music, he also runs a secondary channel called Smooth McGames, on which he releases gameplay videos and streams of various titles. This week, McGroove started a playthrough of the original Legend of Zelda on the NES. In the series’ first episode, we learn some of his first experiences in Zelda and are reminded of how unforgiving the game can be.
The gameplay series will follow McGroove as he sets out to finish the game in its entirety. In the first episode, he names his hero after his cat Charl and begins exploring the overworld. McGroove admits that he has never finished the first Zelda before, but remembers the locations of many of secrets and power-ups hidden around the overworld.
I found it really interesting to hear his past experiences with the game. He explains that he had only completed up to the sixth dungeon before this playthrough, mostly due to the frustrating difficulty of the game’s later sections. It would seem that that difficulty was not exaggerated, as he even struggles in a few places in this current playthrough.
The first two episode’s of McGroove’s Zelda playthrough are on the Smooth McGames channel right now, as well as streams of other Zelda titles.
