Skyward Sword: Another Lackluster Week of Pre-Orders
Posted on October 11 2011 by Mases Hagopian
The latest numbers from VG Chartz are now available and it’s another week with very uninspiring numbers for Skyward Sword. The next Zelda installment picked up 23,198 pre-orders last week, giving it a total of 391,374 thus far. Next week almost certainly should see Skyward Sword surpass the 400,000 mark but that number just isn’t up to par with other premium titles. Jump inside to see some further analysis.
The notable changes from the previous week is that Batman: Arkham City for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 surpassed pre-order totals of Skyward Sword. Each version has crossed the 400,000 mark and they now sit at the 6th and 7th spots respectively. Skyward Sword, which now sits at the #8 spot did leapfrog over Assassin’s Creed: Revelations for the Xbox 360 notching just over 2,000 more pre-orders.
With Batman just two weeks to launch it makes sense that it would get the surge in pre-orders to make this jump. However, the worry this week is the same as previous weeks, Skyward Sword picked up the 2nd least number of pre-orders amongst all the games in the Top 10. Even so, if you count the two versions of Assassin’s Creed, Skyward Sword was last on that Top 10. It should be noted that there hasn’t been another Nintendo game on Top 20 list, whether that be for the Nintendo 3DS or the Nintendo Wii, since way back in June when Ocarina of Time 3D was on the list.
We’re just over 5-weeks out until the game hits stores, so be sure to check back often here at Zelda Dungeon for all the latest news, media, and pre-order numbers for Skyward Sword.
