While we’ve been able to pick out bits and pieces about the character from his trailer and the gameplay video of his DLC forms, we still have quite a bit to learn about how Ganondorf will fight in Hyrule Warriors, not to mention how exactly he’ll fit into the overarching story. The GameXplain analysis video we posted earlier today began this process with some details and speculative suggestions, but that evaluated the Direct as a whole rather than the Demon King’s part. Fortunately for all of us, IGN has taken the Great Sword trailer to its Rewind Theater feature to see what might be hidden in the video.

Their observations are as follows:

00:15 – The Prince of Darkness rides in on a horse. This is quite possibly the first horse we’ve seen in any of these Hyrule Warriors trailers. His gold crown looks similar to the one Ganondorf wore in Twilight Princess.

00:16 – Check out the new look. Ganondorf’s gold gauntlets run up until his elbows. He sporting a much more marshal attire than I think we’ve seen before. It looks like a mix of samurai meets warlord. The symbol on this chest plate looks similar to an image from Zelda: Twilight Princess.

00:29 – Listen to that signature Ganon laugh.

00:33 – This trailer focuses on Ganondorf’s using the Great Sword, but it’s important to note that he’s dual wielding two blades. This is a cool nod to Ganon’s fighting style in previous games. His combos juggle multiple enemies in the air.

00:46 – Why is Ganondorf fighting Bulblin? Weren’t these enemies from Zelda: Twilight Princess?

00:56 – Ganondorf unleashes an inner beast. The silhouette looks a lot like his final form from previous Zelda games.

01:15 – A final cataclysmic attack. Since we haven’t played as Ganondorf in Hyrule Warriors, we’re not quite sure how this one works.

The point about the enemies Ganondorf fights seems the most telling to me. In the gameplay we’ve seen of Ghirahim and Zant, they also are fighting “evil” foes. Since I doubt we’ll see these evildoers turn on their comrades (except perhaps maybe Zant) I’ll hazard a guess that these characters are playable outside of the main story only. Then again, that would make for quite the plot twist.

What do you think these details mean? Is there anything you picked up that was missed in the above analysis?
