Music is a defining feature of The Legend of Zelda series, so much so that it becomes its own character. The soundscape molds Hyrule around Link and his friends, giving character to those he interacts with and helps the player connect with them on an emotional level. The awe-striking music from The Legend of Zelda played a significant role in why I chose to pursue Bachelor’s Degree in music, and it is why I have decided to take an in-depth look at different tracks…

Widely regarded as the darkest entry in the Zelda series, Twilight Princess contains some of the creepiest and scariest enemies we’ll face in Hyrule. Locked away, deep in the depths of the desert colossus Arbiter’s Grounds lies Death Sword, a phantom possessed sword which Link must defeat to obtain the Spinner item. Theorist, analyzer, and general Zelda discussion Youtuber Zeltik has put forward his thoughts on exactly where this creepy boss fits into the Zelda canon. The video covers both the sword itself and the…

Since the beginning of The Legend of Zelda  series we’ve seen a great evolution in the art style of the game. The series has produced some of the most memorable artwork in video game history, and many of the styles and features have become iconic to the Zelda series. The question, “What is your favorite art style for Zelda?” is rather hard. As an artist and graphic designer, I have a deep appreciation for every style that we’ve seen from…

When it comes to dungeons, The Legend of Zelda loves its themes. The early, 3D entries, especially, doubled down on giving each temple a specific motif and sticking to it. Ocarina of Time’s Fire Temple, for instance, is a straight-up, no-nonsense, fire-themed level. The Wind Waker’s Forbidden Woods? That’s a forest dungeon if ever I’ve seen one. More recent titles have experimented with multiple ingredients, with Twilight Princess’ Arbiter’s Grounds feeling more like a blend of desert and shadow. Similarly, the Ancient Cistern…

Ladies and gentleman, my name is Kristen. Rosario. And I am your host for the CAVE OF TRIALS! Now before we talk a little about what’s to come for this week, let’s get into the winners of last week’s bout. Let’s start off by announcing that unfortunately, Saria was not able to get her win. So this, of course, means that STILL your NEW ERA Cave of Trials Champion, Midna! Her reign continues. I’ve decided that until ZeldaMania arrives in…

They’re scary, murderous, carry epic weapons, and come in many colors; Lynels. Lynels are not a new beast to The Legend of Zelda, but they make their glorious return in Breath of the Wild. I recently posed the question, “What do Lynels think about while pacing around?” I definitely received some interesting answers, but most of them stemmed around the subject of murdering anything that crosses its path. I have some other thoughts, though. Lynels are obviously smarter than the…

Link’s Awakening DX breathed extra life into it’s original game. The dream like world of Koholint now had a beautiful color palette to go with it. Coming with this update was a brand new dungeon. The Color Dungeon, as it was aptly called, took advantage of the new colorful version of the game, having puzzles and enemies which were color based. With the announcement of a remake of Link’s Awakening, many were asking us if we thought this bonus dungeon…

Since its use as the Player/Menu Select theme in A Link To The Past, “Fairy Fountain” has become one of the most iconic and well-known Zelda songs. The song is so popular that it was even played live at The Game Awards by the band Imagine Dragons and Koji Kondo in 2014. Over time, the song has been covered countless times, with most of covers focusing on the serene sounds established by its original incarnation. This version by Michael Mac…

A calm rested over the city. Trumpets blew out the final notes of the Song of the Hero and every heart and mind in Castletown rested on the tale of the Hero of Legend. At dawn, the biggest celebration since the beginning of the era would begin. Banners, streamers, tents, and flags from every corner of Hyrule were already adorning the streets in honor of the 100th Swordsman Festival. Merchants from all over would sell their trinkets and goods, butchers…
