Nintendo Launches Official Website for New Video Production Company “Nintendo Pictures”

Earlier this year, Nintendo made headlines when announcing its acquisition of Tokyo-based animation studio Dynamo Pictures. Official documentation of the acquisition described Nintendo’s plans to use the studio, subsequently renamed Nintendo Pictures, “to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo group.” Not much more was known about Nintendo’s new animation studio at the time of this announcement, but the recent launch of a Nintendo Pictures official website has shed a bit more light on the Big N’s plans moving forward.
While the newly launched Nintendo Pictures official website is currently quite light on content — featuring only a brief message about the company, an About section, a Contact section, and a recruitment section — the aforementioned message does provide a bit more, albeit vague, information about the studio’s goals, philosophies, and role within Nintendo.
The message, as translated by Nintendo Life, reads:
“Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd. is a video production company wholly owned by Nintendo Co., Ltd.
We aim to have consumers around the world learn about Nintendo characters through video, and to create unique videos that will remain in their memories forever.
To that end, each and every one of our employees will always think about what our customers around the world will find interesting, and we will work hard to create an organisation that can continue to grow by engaging in video production with interest.
We will continue to challenge ourselves to continue providing unique and surprising images to customers around the world, transcending generations and eras.”
It’s still unclear how exactly Nintendo will utilize this new studio and in what medium, whether in video games, television, films, or all of the above. We can only hope that the “Nintendo characters” touted above will include those from the Legend of Zelda series.
Dynamo Studios, prior to the acquisition, had worked with Nintendo to produce a series of well-received Pikmin shorts. The studio also produced animation for a variety of other video game, film, and television properties, including Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Naruto.
