Update: There was no official announcement from Nintendo. However, retailers, including GameStop and Walmart, have begun increasing the prices for all amiibo releasing alongside the Switch 2. The new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo have increased $10 each, from $19.99 USD to $29.99 USD.

Original: North American pre-orders for the Switch 2 have been in flux since Nintendo decided to delay the initial date due to tariffs in the United States. Today, Nintendo announced the new date. The Switch 2 will be available for pre-order starting on Thursday, April 24th — in just over a week.

Many concerns have been brought up the console’s pricing. Thankfully, the advertised price has not changed. Buyers can still expect to pay $449.99 USD for the base console and $499.99 USD for the Mario Kart World digital bundle. Release titles, including Donkey Kong Bananza, are also unaffected, remaining at its $69.99 USD price tag. The Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available for $69.99 USD and $79.99 USD, respectively. The new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo are also staying at their original price of $19.99 USD each.

The biggest change in pricing comes with the accessories. Nintendo stated:

Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions. Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.

Shoppers will want to make note of this, as the price is likely staying the same for now because tariffs from the Trump administration are currently on a 90-day pause. After this period, it is possible the Switch 2 could be impacted. With this statement, Nintendo has implied future price fluctuations are not off the table. The press release included a list of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for all Switch 2 products. As of April 18th, this is where they stand:

The percentage increases for each item varies, with most differences being between $5-$10 USD. For example, the All-In-One Carrying Case rose from $79.99 USD to $84.99 USD, while the Dock Set increased nearly 10% from $109.99 USD to $119.99 USD.

As part of the announcement, Nintendo issued an apology for the stress the pre-order delay caused, saying:

We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing. We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5th, 2025.

Pre-orders will be available from Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target. Amazon does not appear to be a participating retailer. Registering interest through Nintendo is also still an option for individuals with their own Nintendo Switch Online accounts or owners of family plans.

What do you think of this announcement? Has the delay diminished your interest, or are you excited to finally fight for your pre-order? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
