Kicking off the work week with a surprise, Nintendo just dropped a brand new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This new “Traversing Hyrule” trailer not only takes viewers on an exciting tour of Echoes of Wisdom‘s version of Hyrule, it also introduces several new gameplay features that Princess Zelda will be able to take advantage of during her adventure.

The new trailer begins with a region-by-region tour of the Hyrule Kingdom, which spotlights the sights, sounds, and peoples of each diverse location across Echoes‘ map. We visit the “scorching dunes” and fierce sandstorms of the Gerudo Desert, and we see a bit more of the Gerudo Tribe first teased in the game’s debut trailer. We then head on over to the “scenic waterways” of the Jabul Waters, home of the rival Sea Zora and River Zora factions. And we end our tour with the “lush labyrinth of vegetation” that is the Faron Wetlands, where you’ll find plenty of Deku Scrubs. All of these regions presumably border the Central Plateau, where Hyrule Castle and its Castle Town reside.

While we were certainly excited to visit all the locations mentioned above, the trailer’s trip to Eldin Volcano proved the most exciting. Not only do we catch a glimpse of Kakariko Village nestled at the volcano’s base, we also meet Echoes of Wisdom‘s Gorons for the first time! Notably absent from the game’s first trailer, these Gorons are shown to live in Goron City high atop the mountain. And like in other Zelda games, they have a hankering for tasty rock roast.

Beyond our tour of Hyrule, this new trailer also introduces several gameplay feature that we’ll see in Echoes of Wisdom, including a quest log to help you keep track of main quests and side quests, fast-travel waypoints across Hyrule Kingdom, and smoothie shops managed by Business Scrubs, where Princess Zelda can concoct drinks with different effects using ingredients she’s collected.

That’s all very intriguing, but there were three features shown off in particular that seemed most significant to us. The first is the introduction of horseback riding to Echoes of Wisdom, wherein Princess Zelda can mount her own trusty steed in order to traverse the overworld faster, jump over obstacles, and trample lesser enemies. All our princess has to do is call her horse with a carrot Echo. This addition makes Echoes of Wisdom the first top-down Zelda game to feature horseback gameplay since Four Swords Adventures!

The trailer also shows off how Princess Zelda can don various outfits and accessories to enhance her abilities. In addition to the robes we saw in the first trailer, here we can see the princess wearing her iconic dress and some Gerudo garb as well. And through a glimpse of the Equipment menu screen, we can see some accessories Zelda can equip, including Zora’s Flippers for faster swimming speed, a Frog Ring for higher jumps, a Heart Pin that makes Hearts appear more often during gameplay.

The third and perhaps most important ability introduced in the new trailer is called Bind, where Zelda can move objects around with her Tri Rod. You can learn more about that ability right here.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is set to release September 26th, 2024. You can pre-order the game on the Nintendo eShop right here.
