Mysterious online feature for A Link Between Worlds

As you may have noticed there has been a lot of news regarding the upcoming release of The Wind Waker HD over the past week or so which seems to have taken slightly taken the focus away from the other Zelda game that is coming in November, A Link Between Worlds. The box art for the game was released a few days ago and it all looks pretty snazzy but there is one section of the box that has brought up some questions: the symbol that shows the game can connect to the Nintendo network, which is the orange symbol in the top right corner. This means the game will have an online component but nothing has been officially announced so far. However, the people over at IGN have come up with several theories.
Find out what they are after the jump!
When I first heard about it I thought it would allow some form of multiplayer aspect to the game, whether it be in the same way as The Four Swords Adventure or just allow people to go up against each other in mini games. While having a multiplayer Zelda game was one of IGN’s theories, too, they have several others, such as having something to do with the Miiverse. Honestly, I have no idea what that is. I have a Mii on my Wii and I’ve heard of the Miiverse but I don’t know what it actually is or how it could be implemented into a Zelda game. Maybe you’ll be able to insert your Mii into the game so it’s you running round Hyrule instead of Link.
One of their other theories is to do with DLC which isn’t that far fetched. There was a lot of downloadable contact for the recently released Fire Emblem Awakening like new maps and being able to play as characters from previous Fire Emblam games, including Ike and Roy. With the high critical acclaim Fire Emblem Awakening received and strong sales, it would stand to reason Nintendo would try incorporating the DLC aspect into one of their most successful franchises. It could allow for extra dungeons, more post game content and even new items but that’s probably just me getting my hopes up. It could just turn out you’re able to post high scores from mini games onto a league table.
What do you think? Would you like DLC for the game or would you prefer a multiplayer aspect? Let us know your theories and preferences in the comments below.
