Musical Plagiarism Between Final Fantasy IV and A Link to the Past?
Posted on April 26 2012 by Djinn
In the latest episode of Chiptuned we take a look at the two songs from two separate games that have a very similar sound to them. The songs being the main theme from final Fantasy IV and the ending theme from A Link to the Past. The video begins with a lengthy discussion describing how few may have caught this since the ending theme to ALTTP is not often remixed or replayed nearly as much as other songs from the series so many might have not noticed. The actual musical comparison begins at 2:09. Jump inside to check it out.
These are fairly similar sounding songs but I have my doubt on one company stealing from another. They were both made for fantasy games on the SNES within the same time period so it makes sense for each company to want something epic sounding for a very European fantasy styled game. His remark that few hear or remember the ending theme to ALTTP is a little true in my case, I could not recall it at all until he began to play it. Then everything came back to me.
So what do you think? Did you think they were similar? Was it just a coincidence? Let us know in the comments below.
