Video game physics- you have to love it. Discovered by everyone and exploited by speed runners. And sometimes the same sort of “trick” works across different games in a series, or even different franchises and developers completely. “The descent” is a particularly common one, but the mechanics of any game with explosions can be particularly fun to explore, and let’s not even get started on what interesting situations can arise when objects clip into each other. But without waiting any longer, hit the jump to see this week’s comic!

Of course this week’s feature comes to you by Corpse Run Comics. Who else would bring game physics exploration into the comic world?

The most interesting thing I find about this particular phenomenon is how many games “the descent” transcends. The Assassin’s Creed series, for one: if you assassinate a person on your way down, gravity cuts you some slack on that jump.

What I wonder about this is whether, in modern games, these kind of game physics appear because of limitations of technology, or because gamers are now comfortable with this surreality. I’m sure that video games could get frustrating if they were too real, and this may be a case where designers put enjoyability above reality.

What do you think? And what do you think of the comic? Tell us in the comments!
