Monday Comic Corner – Skull Kid

Majora’s Mask is a fantastic Zelda game. Not just because it has good gameplay, a good plot, and unprecedented mechanics, but it also has some serious themes. Sure, Majora’s Mask is darker than most of the franchise, and the nearing moon is simply terrifying, however some of the underlying truths in the game, particularly how those surround Skull Kid, are amazing to realize.
And of course, who better to reveal those to us than Zac Gorman with his Magical Game Time comic. Hit the jump to read!
Loneliness. Friendship. Within everything else that happened in Majora’s Mask, these two things are probably the most important. Of course the mask granted Skull Kid unprecedented powers, but it was because Skull Kid was so willing to be a servant to his only friend. At least until Link and the four giants showed up.
The last panel gives me chills. The Lost Woods reference, where we first encounter what Skull Kids are in Ocarina of Time, lost children. And the crude drawing that’s present at the end of the game, drawn in the beautiful Magical Game Time fashion. Additionally, this rendition of Skull Kid is perhaps my favorite- so much more real than I’ve ever seen before.
I absolutely loved this comic. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
