Modding Group Set to Complete a “Story Expansion” for Breath of the Wild
Posted on March 23 2021 by Andrew Millard
Breath of the Wild has a vibrant and active emulation and modding scene. Basically without exception, the hacks, improvements, and additions that have come out of it have shown a level of care and creativity that is rare, even among more mod-friendly titles.
Perhaps the most ambitious project to be seen yet is Breath of the Wild: Second Wind. The project is two years in the making and combines the efforts of more than 50 people. According to the project’s GameBanana page, the mod aims revise and improve existing gameplay, as well as add new content. That new content is most likely the biggest eye opener for Breath of the Wild fans, as project lead CEOBrainz ushers the project toward adding new story elements to the existing game.
Scrolling through the project breakdown reveals work on such large-scale tasks as completely new quests, map locations, and even gameplay elements like hand-to-hand combat. The project is well-documented and has an impressive amount of in-progress assets on display, as well as video of completed elements to check out.
Breath of the Wild: Second Wind is reportedly 60 percent completed. You can keep up with the project’s progress on Gamebanana here, or on the project’s Discord and Wiki.
