Modder Removes Cel Shading From Breath Of The Wild

Though perhaps not as extensive as that of Skyrim, Breath of the Wild‘s mod scene has been going strong ever since the Cemu Wii U emulator became capable of running it. Whether they’re bringing meme’s to the land of Hyrule or making it even more similar to an anime than it already is, there’s almost a mod for everything, including, apparently, one to remove the game’s signature cel-shading. Showcased recently by Arkh Longstride on YouTube, and created by Skalefate and altros, the mod doesn’t stop there. Along with the cel shading, gone are the limitations of the Wii U on the framerate of the game, which makes for an admittedly smoother experience.
I have to admit, when I first saw this, it seemed REALLY weird to see Nintendo’s unique graphical style altered in such a way, but at the end of the day, I think it has its own charm. Granted, the views and environments were originally crafted with the cel shading in mind, so I’ll probably always view that version as the best, but there’s no question that there are folks out there who wanted to see a more realistic version of the game’s art style. With modding of Breath of the Wild reaching new heights every day, the sky might not even be the limit with what we could eventually see.
What say you Zelda fans? Which version do you prefer and what mods would you like to see in the future? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
