I love the fall so much, not just for the weather, but because every October within the Zelda community, we get Linktober!

If you’re an avid reader of Zelda Dungeon, you may have heard us mention our friends over at Linktober before. But for those who might be unfamiliar, here’s a quick overview. Linktober is an annual art event held in October, focused on monthly prompts based on themes in The Legend of Zelda. There are a few different calendars to choose from, and each year they are curated to have different prompts for each day.

Do I have to be a visual artist to participate in Linktober? Absolutely not; create what you can! All types of creators are encouraged to join! Writers can make short stories or poems! Musicians? Create a song! Cosplayers? Show off those cosplays! There are many ways to participate in Linktober! It’s about getting inspired to create, putting in the mileage to learn and improve at a skill, and most importantly — have fun!

If you need some support or want to share some ideas, be sure to join the Linktober Discord right here.

Is there any kind of art that Linktober does not showcase? Yes, Linktober has taken an official stance regarding using AI-generated art in Linktober. You can read more about keeping Linktober clean from AI-generated art here.

The calendars this year have some fun prompts, even some that play into Echoes of Wisdom, which will be released by time the event starts! From right to left: we have The Main Calendar, The Quest Calendar (a calendar for artists to create and take their original character(s) on a quest through the world of The Legend of Zelda), and finally The Shadow Calendar (which features prompts of a more villainous nature).

Be sure to share your work online when October arrives, and use #Linktober to help filter searches to potentially get a repost or story share from the official Linktober accounts!

I’m highly anticipating this year’s event! I love seeing all the types of creations people make. I have my fingers crossed that this year we see more 3D artists joining in. I’d be so ecstatic to see some Blender renders this year!

As for my participation, for those interested, I’m not sure yet if I’ll do the entire month of prompts. If I don’t, I’ll at the very least pick out some days to create some digital art for!

Do you plan on participating in Linktober? Which calendar are you most interested in? Let us know in the comments below!
