Link Battles a Stalfos in Newest “Creatures of Hyrule” Episode
Posted on April 14 2015 by Rod Lloyd
A few months ago, we saw the premiere episode of Creatures of Hyrule, a series of fan films meant to bring the iconic beasts of Zelda to life. Last week, filmmaker Jared Potter and (part one) media released the series’ second entry, titled Forest Guardian. In this action-packed episode, Link is confronted with a Stalfos, resulting in a life-threatening battle with the sword-fighting skeleton.
As with the Poe in first episode of Creatures of Hyrule, the CGI seen in this video is extremely impressive. Watching Link’s sword clang against the Stalfos’ sword and shield adds a great deal of realism to the fight scene. Little details like leaves moving beneath the skeletons steps show just how much hard work went into this project. The fight ends with a few exciting surprises, so don’t let me spoil it for you. As the credits roll, there’s even a bit of behind-the-scenes footage and silly CGI antics, so definitely check that out as well.
Potter has stated that each episode of the series will explore a different Zelda creature, so stay tuned to his channel for future updates. I personally would love to see more creatures from different Zelda environments, such as a fire creature like Flare Dancers or a water creature like Morpha. Well… I guess nature already has the latter one covered.
You can also visit Potter’s channel for behind-the-scenes content and watch his previous Zelda short film The Skull Kid on Machinima.
What are your thoughts on this new episode? Are there any creatures you’d like the team to bring to life next? Let us know in the comments!
