Kid Icarus Uprising AR Cards Will be Hard to Obtain

If you plan on collecting all the Kid Icarus Uprising AR cards, all I have to say is good luck. Contrary to what you might have expected, Nintendo has no plans to sell the cards at retail. They’ll only be available at special promo events, tournaments, and as part of special offers like the recent Game Informer giveaway.
However, don’t think that means there won’t really be all that many. Serial numbers indicate that there must be at least 330 or so different cards to collect. At GDC, attendees could pick up a “starter set” that comes with ten random cards, and we can expect something similar at other events.
Scanning AR cards will add them permanently to your “vault,” as well as grant you idols and hearts. The cards will be released in various series – the one seen at GDC is Series 1 – and will eventually cover every character, item, and ability. Given the way AR coding works, it’s possible to create up to 14,348,907 different kinds of cards, so who knows what the maximum will be?
