IGN: Skyward Sword Wins People’s Choice Game of the Year

IGN today announced their full listing of winners for their 2011 end of year awards. Taking home the prize of Game of the Year is Portal 2. However, IGN also had fan polls setup where fans could vote for their own 2011 awards. Winning the People’s Choice Game of the Year is none other than Skyward Sword. So IGN thinks Portal 2 was the best game of 2011 while its fans feel Skyward Sword was the best game. The irony here is that IGN gave Portal 2 a 9.5 review score while it gave Skyward Sword the perfect 10. Granted that obviously comes down to the individual reviewers, but I felt it was worth mentioning that IGN gave a Game of the Year award to a game that got the lesser review score at their site.

Skyward Sword didn’t win any of IGN’s actual rewards, but it did take home a number of the People’s Choice awards. Skyward Sword won in the Best Story, Best Adventure, and Best Sound categories, in addition to winning several Nintendo Wii specific awards.
