One of the explicit goals of Hyrule Warriors was to expose those from both sides of the Zelda x Dynasty Warriors fanbase to a game series they may have not experienced. Judging by the number of Zelda fans who experienced and enjoyed the title, it seems safe to say that this did successfully get them to try out the Dynasty Warriors franchise. While we don’t have specific numbers, the benefits Koei Tecmo enjoyed seem to be rather pronounced, and they may help revitalize their franchise. In an interview with UK publication MCV, Koei Tecmo producer, Akihiro Suzuki had the following to say about the impact of Hyrule Warriors on the Dynasty Warriors franchise.

“Over the years we’ve seen a sales decline. The Dynasty Warriors series is targeted towards the core fans. But we’ve had a few collaborations recently that have given the franchise a second wind because they’ve brought in new fans that hadn’t given Dynasty Warriors a chance. So Hyrule Warriors gave the series some freshness. Now our task is to keep the new players happy now that they’ve had a chance to play. But overall with the franchise, we need to keep it fresh, both the Dynasty Warriors and the Samurai Warriors brands.”

While a sales boost isn’t surprising, unless crossovers as exciting as this one keep pulling in new fans, it may be tough to ride that momentum. Nonetheless, it should be interesting to see what Dynasty Warriors comes up with next – that is, assuming it isn’t just Hyrule Warriors 2. Will any of you who were brought into the Warriors fold by its Zelda crossover be exploring other future titles in the franchise? Or is it Hyrule Warriors or bust?
