Hymns of Light and Shadows – Kaepora Gaebora’s Theme
Posted on March 27 2012 by Jesse McCarty
It has been a few months since the release of CsGuitar89’s full length Zelda tribute album, Hymns of Light And Shadows and as promised, he has been releasing a new video once a week featuring songs from the album. His intentions with this album was to have a full length album that lasted atleast an hour. He successfully met his goal when he finally released it with a full track list of 18 songs ranging from many different Zelda games and even gave the fans a chance to come up with their own title and cover for the album.
Last week’s video was a cover of the Kakariko Village Theme and next week’s will be the Shop Theme. This week the featured video is my personal favorite, Kaepora Gaebora’s Theme. Check out the video after the jump to listen to it for yourself.
The album Hymns of Light and Shadows is Casper’s first full length album. He has put together over an hour of music and 18 different songs from the series. Each capturing the emotional value of the original from the games while providing his own creative touch to the songs. Fans of the Zelda series should be happy to know that the album ranges from a few different genres from slow paced relaxing music “Astral Observatory” to loud heavy metal songs “Goron City” and everything in between.
Fans of his songs will be pleased to know this album is free to download on his official site. If you’re for some odd reason tired of hearing Zelda related music than you can check out many of the other Nintendo and non Nintendo related covers on his Youtube Channel. If you’re a fan of the songs than you can even make your way to his website and download them as well. You can find the track listing from the album below.

Kaepora Gaebora’s Theme is my personal favorite from the album. I think it is the perfect example of a Zelda song that captures the spirit and freedom of Ocarina of Time better than any other. Not only did the it capture the freedom that was given to you in the game, but the fact that it was the theme song for a bird, an animal that symbolizes freedom, made the feeling that much stronger. Although Kaepora Gaebora was a little on the annoying side when he randomly stopped you and went on and on for several minutes, what he had to say was important and definitely helped out if you were unsure of what to do. Thanks to the gossip stones mentioning he used to be a sage, his character added even more mystery to the Zelda series. Overall, I think this is a perfect song to go along with one of the most well thought out NPCs of the entire series and Casper did an outstanding job of making it even better than the original. What do you think though? How did you feel about Kaepora Gaebora?
