HMK: The Problems With Twilight Princess
Posted on December 05 2015 by Jon Lett
Oh boy. That title. That’s asking for trouble. It is no secret that Twilight Princess is a true fan favorite in the series, and many are quite excited about the upcoming HD remake, but there are times when we crazy fans need to step back and look at one of our favorite games critically, at the things that could be seriously improved in the HD version. It stinks to have to nitpick, but in the long run, it helps to make the game even more amazing. Right now, we do not know much Twilight Princess HD beyond the new graphics, but there is a lot of small details they could tweak. Awhile back, HMK took the time to look at every detail that he thought could use an update.
Check out the video after the jump.
One of the points HMK makes that stands out the most to me was about the items. Let’s be real. As awesome as the Ball and Chain, the Dominion Rod and the Spinner were, they are joked about all across the board, for being used for barely any of the game. The series staples like bombs and arrows were used a lot, but other than that, the potential of these creative items was sadly dropped.
Something I never thought about was the monsters in the overworld. I suppose I can’t disagree that it is rather empty thinking back. The kingdom seemed more hostile, but overall, it was extremely easy to get around, especially considering how dark and hostile the game itself was made out to be. And on the note of easiness, I don’t know how much I agree about the bosses. I suppose a Hero Mode would be good to up the difficulty, but I appreciated the mechanics of most of the bosses. I didn’t love the major bashes HMK took towards the boss gameplay, considering they were no less creative than most other Zelda game’s bosses, especially Ganondorf. The fishing rod thing was a joke. Ignore it. But whatever. To each their own. I must say, I do agree with the enemy AI thing, though.
I loved Twilight Princess. It was the second console Zelda title I ever played, the first being The Wind Waker, and I was blown away at the atmosphere, the scale, and the story, but looking at it these days, these are definitely things that could use improvement. Do you agree? Could Nintendo perfect this already awesome game in the new remake? Or should these elements be left alone and preserved? Drop a comment!
And remember, please be respectful, folks. Twilight Princess is great for many, but not everyone thinks so.
