Official Zelda Trading Cards, Dog Tags, Collectors Tins and More Coming in 2016

As we know, The Legend of Zelda is turning 30 in 2016. If you weren’t excited before, there’s a whole bunch of new reasons to get pumped for the anniversary, and those reasons come in the forms of brand new merchandise of a whole new variety. The Legend of Zelda is getting official trading cards, card sleeves, collector’s tins, playmats, and dog tags!

For those of us who enjoy card games, specifically, trading card games, this could be huge. The fact that there will be card sleeves and playmats released with the trading cards could hint at an official playable trading card game for The Legend of Zelda. It’s possible that the card sleeves and playmats could be collector’s items for people who happen to like both trading card games and The Legend of Zelda, but in my opinion, that seems unlikely since that’s a fairly small demographic. As far as marketing goes, selling card sleeves and playmats would only really be useful if the cards are part of a trading card game, which is extremely exciting.

Even if the trading cards are not part of a playable trading card game, the cards and the collector’s tins are still something that many of us can get excited about. Everyone from collectors to casual fans will be able to appreciate the beauty of this new merchandise, and those of us who enjoy other trading card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, or Magic: The Gathering can look forward to playing our favorite games with these beautiful new card sleeves and playmats!
