Not only did this year’s PAX West provide attendees a golden opportunity to spend time with like-minded gamers, it also gave Zelda fans a chance to go hands-on with Echoes of Wisdom just weeks before its September 26th release. One of those lucky people was Zelda Dungeon Editor-in-Chief Rod Lloyd, who got the opportunity to try out the playable demo available on the show floor.

During his time with the game, Rod was able to confirm what has been discussed online since the demo became available: the inclusion of Hero Mode. As you can see in the image below, Echoes of Wisdom‘s take on this difficulty makes the following adjustments: Princess Zelda takes twice the damage, no hearts will drop for her, and various other accessory effects will not be applied.

As of the time of writing, we don’t know if Echoes of Wisdom‘s Hero Mode will be available right away. The PAX demo, which took players through the early portions of the game, did make the difficulty option available from the start, but we can’t confirm that this will be the case in the retail version.

A staple of the Zelda series since it first debuted back in 2011 with Skyward Sword, Hero Mode is seen as a successor to the Second Quest difficulty from the original NES The Legend of Zelda, offering players a more challenging experience if they want to play through a game again. Each title in the franchise to have a Hero Mode added something unique, so it’ll be interesting to see all that Echoes of Wisdom‘s version will include.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is set to release September 26th, 2024. You can pre-order the game right here.

What do you think of Echoes of Wisdom‘s inclusion of Hero Mode? Will you be jumping on that difficulty when you finally get your hands on the game? Let us know in the comments below!
