Around here we’re not always the greatest at keeping up on the various birthdays for all of the Zelda games, but one Zelda birthday we’ll never forget is the original release. It was titled Hyrule Fantasy in Japan and landed on the Famicon Disk System on February 21st, 1986. Roughly a year later, the rest of the world got to enjoy Link‘s very first adventure in Hyrule. Today marks its 29th birthday, meaning next year is the big 30th. One reason why I will never personally forget how old the whole Zelda series has become is that my own age is fairly close to the series’ age – I’ll be turning 29 on July 5th. That’s right, this series has only existed for 4 and half months longer than I have been alive. Crazy.

Still, you only turn 29 once, and since this doubles as both the birthday for the very first release in the Zelda series (so, literally The Legend of Zelda (Famicon) birthday) and the overall birthday for the entire series, I figured today was a good day to talk about our favorite moments from the past 29 years of Zelda. What does this series mean to you? What moments stick with you ever day of your life? Most importantly: happy birthday Zelda series, and may many more birthdays come in the future.
