Zelda-Minish-Cap-Vaati-by_starfochRecently, I had talked about whether or not the Picori should return in future Zelda titles. But as most of you have stated, they already are in most Zelda games- you just can’t see them. But what would you say if you were able to see the idea of Kinstones brought into newer Zelda games…?  Kinstones were a great mechanic in The Minish Cap, and I’m sure many fans enjoyed it- that’s what this Gossip Stone is about.  I’ll be talking about what they are and what they do further in, so if you’d like to read more on it, don’t hesitate to hit the jump!

In The Minish Cap, there was a neat mechanic that allowed the player to pair half of a medallion with an NPC’s medallions throughout the game, in order to obtain rewards (or even progress through the story)- to do so, the player must have found one half of these medallions -a Kinstone- and find the appropriate NPC to pair the Kinstone with. Each Kinstone has a different shape, so finding the correct NPC is key to matching your Kinstone and obtaining your reward. These were made into side-quests that allowed the player to obtain rewards such as Heart Pieces, or even just some Rupees.

There were various kinds of Kinstone, and each color has its own rarity. Green is the most common, while Blue is uncommon- making Red rarer than both. However, there were story-specific Kinstones that were colored Gold rather than the other three- only ten can be found in the game, making them the rarest of all four. The Gold Kinstones are story-driven- the reward for fusing these Kinstones with the proper NPC is unlocking an entirely new area to explore, allowing the player to continue the main storyline.

So then, what’s your verdict on this…? Would you like to see Kinstones -or even just the idea of them- return in future Zelda titles? Or did you prefer not having them in the game? Do you have an opinion on the Kinstones that you’d like to share? Sound off in the comments!
