Any of you own an old copy Ocarina of Time? Remember that eerie chanting inside the Fire Temple? Well depending on what version of the cartridge you have, the music may sound a little different than the later titles or those you find on the Virtual Console. The earlier versions have a creepy chant going on in the background, the later versions while still creepy, are missing the same chanting from the song.

Why was it removed from the game later on? GameTrailers‘ “Pop Fiction” episode explores the reasons to the remixing of the Fire Temple theme. Be sure to make the jump to check out the video!

Now we know where that freaky chanting came from, it was added in there afterwards! It’s strange to think that the chanting made it into other games besides Ocarina of Time, let alone a racing game. Personally, I wish they had kept it in the game, I understand why they removed it, but I think it added to the atmosphere. To me, the Fire Temple was one of the creepiest dungeons. When I was a kid I had one of the older cartridges, so the chanting really freaked me out!

So what did you think? Wished they kept the old theme? Glad to know the mystery is solved? Tell us in the comments!
