This is your personal invitation, instruction guide, and rules/regulation book to making your own podcast segment to be featured on the Zelda Dungeon website. Z-Talk is proud to display the work and knowledge of the Zelda Dungeon community members and provides a space for them to show their stuff!

Anyone who wishes to contribute and be part of Z-Talk can record an audio discussion related to Zelda and/or the Zelda Dungeon Community. Z-talk used to be only for Zelda related discussion, however, there has been a shift in order for the podcast to focus on the community members and the website of which we are all apart. In addition, Z-Talk will provide ample room for Zelda discussion, debate, theorizing, and opinions. Ultimately, you can now submit two different types of segments to Z-Talk. Community related segments, or strictly Zelda related. The following guides will explain the difference between the two types of segments, where each will be posted, and the requirements for both.

Zelda Segments
Creating a podcast segment about a Zelda topic is a great way to bring a new idea to the floor or discuss a familiar and blooming topic. To submit a segment, record an audio discussion about a Zelda topic of your choice. This topic can be anything related to the Legend of Zelda. We are looking for interesting and intelligent discussion, debates, theories, and opinion of anything related to Zelda. You, as the Zelda Dungeon Community have the knowledge we are requiring.

All Roundtables and Keaton Quizzes are aslo uploaded to the Zelda Dungeon YouTube channel. Additionally, quality Zelda segments that are submitted to Z-Talk which are aligned with the rules will also be featured on the Zelda Dungeon YouTube channel. These segments are not intended to be video. They are audio casts intended for presentation on YouTube. These segments will be released on YouTube in accordance with the monthly podcast release on iTunes and Zelda Dungeon’s main page. Only high quality segments will be chosen each month to appear on both the podcast and the YouTube channel. These segments will be selected based on quality of the discussion, interest of the topic, and Din and Rish’s discretion.

Community Segments
Z-Talk’s newly featured segments will be focused on the Zelda Dungeon Community, Staff Members, and Forum activities. These segments can be focused completely on these three topics, or can be loosely around a Zelda topic but heavily involve community members. For example, the Keaton Quiz and Mailbag segments would be considered Community segments based on the high level of community involvement. However, these segments still discuss Zelda topics. Creating a community segment may require some casual conversation with Din and Rish to develop your idea and include community members in a fun and effective way.

All Zelda segments that are submitted to Z-Talk which are aligned with the rules will be featured on Z-Talk: The Zelda Dungeon Podcast through iTunes and the Zelda Dungeon main page. The podcast is released monthly. Segments will be released on a first come first serve basis.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING RULES AND REQUIREMENTS. IF THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT MET, YOUR SEGMENT WILL NOT BE AIRED.

Requirements:

1) Your submission should be about 5 minutes long. Your discussion cannot exceed 8 minutes.

2) Record only your voice(s). Try to eliminate background noise. Move away from any fans, open windows, or other people. Do not add background music. This is something that is done as a whole once all the submissions have been compiled into a podcast. If there is specific music you wish to have accompany your discussion, you can request it when you submit your segment and your music will be added for you. It is important that we can hear you! You are the interesting part!

3) You must send the audio file to me in a format accessible for me. I cannot accept .wma files. Send your file as a .m4a (iTunes file), .wav, or an .mp3 file. Please send your segment to the designated podcast email ([email protected]) also available on the contact page. If your file is too large, you may be required to zip the file before sending. However, if this method does not work, you may send your segment via Skype.
(Contact: din_akera). Skype is free to download and supports file transfers.

4) Your section will be introduced by Rishian or myself, but introduce yourself, any guests, and your topic at the beginning of your recording.

5) Please do not use this as an opportunity to advertise. If you choose to do so, your segment will not be featured.

6) Refrain from using any vulgar or offensive language. If you choose to do so, your segment will not be featured.

Tips and Ideas:
Choosing a topic: If there is something about Zelda you are passionate about, or feel you have a strong theory on, this can be a great topic for a submission. If you want to participate, but have don’t know what you would like to discuss, check out the articles published on the news page, and find one the interests you. Or, if there is a thread on the ZD forums that you enjoy, you may comment on the thread topic. For either of these choices, tell us the title of the thread or article and the username of the publisher. You should also feel free to quote the article or post within your recording. If you are really stuck for an idea, feel free to vm, pm, email, or Skype myself or Rishian, and we can make suggestions for you, or help you develop your discussion. Sometimes the best place to start is with your favorite or least favorite game.

Your Discussion: Once you have chosen a topic, create your discussion. If you choose to record by yourself, you should speak as if you are speaking to an audience or group of people. Your section will be introduced by Rishian or myself, but introduce yourself and your topic at the beginning of your recording. Express your theory or discussion clearly and be yourself. Involving more people in your discussion is always a great thing. If you wish to record with more than one person, be cautious of recording quality. It is important to be able to hear everyone that is apart of the discussion.

Recording: Try to be natural in your recording and avoid large blocks of blank spaces. To help you with this, you may want to jot down some point form notes to follow, before you record. This can relieve the pressure of not knowing what to say. This being said, we are all human and the presence of a few ums, ahs, and short pauses is perfectly fine. Also, sometimes practicing a couple times will improve the recording. You can make a few recordings and pick the one you like the best to send to us. Further, at ZD we are proud of the diversity of our members and followers. If you have an accent or your English is not top notch, that is okay! Write out a script for yourself and have someone check it over. Practice a few times. But most of all, have fun!

Software: There are several different programs available to record your podcast submission.
o PC Users: Audacity, GarageBand for Windows, Voice Record (preloaded on most PC's), or Skype Record
o Mac Users: GarageBand (Comes preloaded on all Mac computers)
** You can also use the recording function on most cell phones. Just be sure of the recording quality.

As we have said, we want to hear from you, but not only once! We are always looking for submissions that we can hold on to and use in future casts. That being said, please, if you enjoy being apart of Z-Talk and have many topics you would like to discuss, please submit several casts or start a recurring segment! All submitted casts will be saved and used in the order they were received.

If you have any questions feel free to contact myself or Rishian through the forums, by Skype, or through the staff email. We are more than willing to help with anything you need. Now get out there and start recording!!
